Position Summary:

Responsible for the supervision and coordination of the processes and activities of workers engaged in referral coordination for managed care programs administered by the Department.


  • Responsible for direct supervision of Intake staff and management of the daily workflow in area of responsibility.

  • Monitors and Develops Workflows and Procedures.

  • Provides support and consultation as needed to members, external customers and other departments within Johns Hopkins HealthCare LLC. Maintains communications between Director's office and business-related groups and/or providers. Required to handle highly sensitive and/or confidential information.

  • Participates in handling authorization requests and provides benefits information to providers/members.

  • Assists the Manager in the development and administration of the budget for assigned area of responsibility.

Job Requirements:

Education:


  • Requires an AA degree or equivalent work experience.

Knowledge:


  • Requires a comprehensive understanding of the managed care operations. Experience with insurance eligibility, benefits and pre-authorization referral process required. Knowledge of medical terminology as acquired through the completion of recognized course work or equivalent experience. Strong proficiency and working knowledge of Microsoft office applications including advanced features of Excel, Word and Visio.

Skills:


  • Essential skills require: Ability to communicate effectively both orally and verbally in English. Ability to prioritize daily work flows, assignments and triage priorities to achieve regulatory and organizational performance metrics. Working knowledge of managed care, member eligibly, and pre-authorization process. Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Excel, Word, and Visio. Coaching, mentoring and supervisory skills are required. Knowledge of medical terminology including diagnostic codes, durable medical equipment and procedures required. Customer service skills and ability to collaborate with internal and external customers to resolve issues and complaints.

Work Experience:


  • A minimum of two years providing administrative/intake support in a managed care setting.

  • Experience in utilization management, case management, disease management or customer service preferred. Team lead experience.
