What do you get to do in this position?


  • Participate and lead specification, design, analysis, development, and support of Centeron wireless tank level monitors and associated support devices and Robertshaw Industrial Controls products.
  • Prove out design concepts through a combination of simulation and physical laboratory implementation/testing.
  • Specify microprocessors, logic, semiconductors, modules, and passive components.
  • Develop RF/Radio communications using LTE-CAT-x cellular, Satellite, and short-range radio technology
  • Coordinate, facilitate and drive design decisions of projects, verify that all design best practices are met.
  • Develop tank sensing solutions using guided wave radar, static pressure, ratio-metric sensors, and simple switch sensors.
  • Develop long life, battery-based monitor designs.
  • Provide detailed simulations of critical circuits using SPICE or similar tools.
    Work closely with all other engineering disciplines to address requirement and create/deliver efficient, high quality, cost optimized products.
  • Perform root cause analysis of difficult problems and document problem resolution methodologies.
  • Work closely with regulatory team and remain abreast of the latest developments in engineering and regulatory requirements including UL, CSA, IEC, ATEX, FCC, and IC and guide future development efforts.
  • Work with quality and safety team to address safety/liability concerns.
  • Support project planning activities
    - Estimate the scope of work, parts, and materials cost
    - Participate in preparation of project stage gate review documentation
  • Assist the preparation and review of product manuals, application notes, service documentation, etc.
  • Carry designs from concept to manufacture according to product management processes. This involves working in a collaborative cross-functional team.
  • Create detailed hardware design documentation tracking product development and providing system design documentation.
  • Support sustaining engineering efforts for all products and,
  • Work with management team to achieve product design milestones and reports on progress as required by the Company's design development processes.

What do you get to do in this position?


  • In this position you will develop and support software and firmware for a wide variety of wireless tank level monitoring systems. The systems are part of a state of the art IoT solution set for managing tank levels in applications such as fuel and lubrication products distribution, propane tank service, and chemicals management. We offer a wide array of other products and are always designing new solutions.
  • The detailed development tasks will involve writing, testing, and documenting software and firmware for systems including:

    • Battery operated cellular monitors
    • Battery operated SATCOM monitors
    • Battery operated radio monitors and gateway aggregators
    • Test fixtures & systems for factory/lab use in support monitors/gateways

  • You will be working with a team of engineers to develop and support the monitoring product line. You will also interact with a Web Data Center development team to integrate the monitoring products into our overall solution offerings.

This job might be for you if:

  • Embedded software development using C or C on STM32, PIC18, Infineon XMC, or similar processors.

  • Embedded software development tools such as ST Cube, IAR, Keil, MPLAB and XC compilers, DAVE (Infineon), or similar development environments.

  • IP networking, IoT, M2M, or similar concepts.

  • Serial communications (UART, SPI, I2C)

  • Battery operated / Low power systems.

  • Understanding hardware design schematics as it related to firmware development.

    We prefer additional experience with:


  • Industrial sensor measurements: voltage, current, magnetic, capacitance, time, time of flight

  • Radio networks (cellular, especially LTE, 802.15.x, Bluetooth, Bluetooth Low Energy,)

  • Embedded modems, particularly LTE CAT-M1 and NBIoT

  • Coding standards and best practices

  • Linux, RTOS's, and multithreading concepts.

  • Microsoft Visual Studio .NET (C#), Python, or similar application development tools

  • Android and iOS app development

  • Wireless certification processes

  • UL913 and ATEX Intrinsic Safety design and certification
