Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Wireless R&D group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a technical career as a Spectrum Innovation Software Engineer.

The INL Wireless R&D group is in the process of developing a custom proprietary wireless communication system based on a novel spread spectrum technique. Initial concept has been completed with standard COTS (Commercial off the Shelf) hardware and software. INL now wishes to move the communication system onto hardware and software that is closer to actual deployment. The software engineer role consists of understanding the existing software architecture followed by developing the embedded software code for drivers, medium access control (MAC) and application layer functions within a multi-threaded environment. The employee is expected to conduct investigations and evaluations of current platform software architecture for both Linux and RTOS operating systems. Additional tasks and assignments will be given to the employee by the Program Manger and the Technical Lead of the program throughout the process. The employee will collaborate with the development team to refine and finalize the system requirements. These requirements will be based on the current platform capabilities as well as anticipated future system capabilities.

Minimum Requirements:


  • Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or Computer Science.

  • This work requires that the employee develop software systems to include GUI front ends, Web front ends, back-end applications, real time software, and python system tests. The candidate will develop most of this software with an emphasis in embedded software.

  • ANSI/GNU C, C++/OOP, Javascript, PHP
