The Learning Effectiveness Program (LEP) at the University of Denver was founded in 1982 and is an internationally recognized program for neurodiverse learners. LEP is a fee for service program offering access to supports for neurodiverse learners with Specific Learning Disabilities, Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), students on the Autism Spectrum, and/or students who have a history of learning differences.
Our Mission is two-fold:
To support and service University of Denver students, and
To serve as a resource to the University Community.
The LEP Academic Counselor will provide academic support to a caseload of students by meeting with each student for an hour each week and being available during normal work hours by phone and email. The Academic Counselor will work with the student on areas of student development related to self-awareness, self-advocacy, self-determination, and accountability; as well as assisting the student in navigating the 10-week quarter; connecting with the appropriate resources; planning, organization, time management, etc. The Academic Counselor will develop and maintain positive and productive working relationships with students assigned to their caseload and as appropriate, with their families. The Academic Counselor will demonstrate a commitment to the principles of Inclusive Excellence through involvement and participation in university/division-wide projects and initiatives, and demonstrate a desire to continue to learn and grow by taking advantage of professional development opportunities.
During the summer months the main responsibility of this position will be developing and implementing the LEP's multi-year transition program, Journey to Empowerment Through Transition building opportunities and events for LEP students. This position will also assist with updating marketing materials, the website, providing LEP updates for the area newsletter, assistance with producing, implementing, and reviewing the results of the yearly assessment including the writing of the annual assessment report. This is a 12-month full time, benefited position. This position reports to the Associate Director of the Learning Effectiveness Program.
Academic Learning provide academic learning and development strategies to assist an assigned caseload of students with learning disabilities, ADHD, history of learning differences, on the autism spectrum, etc.
Education and Training Actively engage in professional development at the university, division, and departmental levels. Conduct trainings on UDL, executive functioning, time management, organizational skills, working with students with learning differences, learning styles, stress and anxiety management, etc. Attend conferences for professional development and to represent LEP and the University.
Programming Develop and implement programming for LEP students around transition. Creating resources and writing curriculum to support students. Designing, managing and implementing LEP student events and workshops. Hiring, training, and supervising student leaders. Providing engagement opportunities for LEP students.
Campus Collaboration - Work with faculty and staff educators to create equitable access to learning by sharing strategies and resources on how to work with student with learning disabilities, ADHD, history of learning differences, on the autism spectrum, etc.
Administration - Inspire notes entered within 24 hours; assessment including data collection, surveys, analyzing results and writing for the final report; contract renewal completed; answer emails and voice messages within 24 hours.
Special Projects and Other Duties as Assigned JETT, Eye to Eye and the ADDventure Conferences, Prospective Student Visits, teamwork, and supervision of LEP Peer Leaders.

Bachelor's degree in psychology, special education, or closely related field.
Experience working with students with learning differences in an educational setting.
Knowledge of the concepts of Universal Design for Learning.
Master's in psychology, education, special education, counseling.
Experience working with students in higher education with learning differences.
Experience in event planning.
Experience in program development.
Experience with curriculum design and implementation.
Experience working with students transitioning from K-12 to Higher Ed.
Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is 8.
The salary range for this position is $47,000 - $52,000.
The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate's sex or any other protected status.
