A Zebrafish Feeder position is available in the Brigham and Women's Aquatics Facility, located in the Longwood Campus at 221 Longwood Ave.
Shift: variable hours/weekday and weekends.
The candidate will share responsibility for the daily operations of a multiuser, 10,000 tank, state of the art Aquatics Facility under the general supervision of the Facility Manager and staff. Duties include zebrafish feeding, monitoring water conditions, colony health, stock maintenance and breeding, and upkeep of the facility.
This opening is an ideal opportunity for local college students or recent graduates interested in a career in aquaculture, fish husbandry and/or biomedical research.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The candidate will work under the general supervision of the Facility faculty Manager and staff, and will be expected to independently carry out the daily activities of the aquatics facility which include:
provide appropriate daily husbandry (feeding, health evaluations/Tank exchanges) to Zebra fish and maintenance of the Zebra fish facilities (equipment and facility sanitation)
Perform daily food culture and inventory of feed supplies
Provide daily maintenance and care of zebrafish embryos in Facility incubators
Perform routine and non-routine facility maintenance
Any other Facility related duties as assigned by the Facility Manager and Co-directors and Administrative Director
Sound understanding of lab policies and procedures
Must have good manual dexterity
Ability to quickly learn new techniques and work independently
Must demonstrate careful attention to detail
Ability to lift 20lbs
High school diploma or recent bachelor's degree in biology, aquaculture, marine biology, biochemistry, genetics, or a related science field preferred. Training will be provided
