Job Description:

General Summary/Overview:



Consistently applies the practice values of respect, honesty and fairness and the constant pursuit of excellence in improving the health status of patients to the practice through the provision of patient accessibility and high-value services within the environment of a comprehensive health care orthopedic practice.



Essential Functions:


  • Greets patients and visitors in a courteous and friendly manner.

  • Monitors and directs flow of patients as they enter the clinic.

  • Rooms patient and assists with triage process by starting the patient interview and assessment, completing accurate patient information to include, but not limited to, vital signs, weight, pain assessment, chief complaints, and medical history in collaboration with the physician.

  • Assist physicians with all procedures to include injections and fracture reduction.

  • Performs casting as trained

  • Performs suture removals, dressing changes and applications

  • Documents all processes in patient chart through the EMR

  • Calls in patient prescriptions to pharmacy and enters into the EMR

  • Keep patient rooms clean and orderly

  • Restocks patient rooms as needed

  • Make patient appointments

  • Prep Charts as needed

  • Maintains collaborative, team relationships with peers and colleagues in order to effectively contribute to the achievement of the practice's goals, and to help foster a positive work environment for all.

  • Other duties as assigned.





  • Qualifications

    Education/Experience:



    • 1 - 3 years related patient care experience

    • 1 - 3 years' experience in orthopedics preferred; 6 months experience as an Ortho Tech

    • Successful completion of an Ortho Tech program.

    • Ortho Tech Certification required




    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:



    • Possesses and applies the skills and knowledge necessary to provide care to patients throughout the life span, with consideration of aging processes, human development stages and cultural patterns in each step of the care process. This includes:

      • Knowledge of growth and development

      • Ability to interpret age specific data and response to care

      • Provide age specific communication



    • Ability to perform tasks requiring extensive hand-eye coordination

    • Strong computer skills

    • Basic medical terminology

    • Ability to organize work priorities and meet specific objectives under time constraints

    • Ability to multi-task

    • Strong interpersonal skills




    Physical Demands: Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, and eye-hand coordination. Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing up to 100 pounds. Requires corrected vision and hearing to normal range. Requires working under stressful conditions or working irregular hours. Requires exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.



    Environmental Working Conditions: Frequent exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, medicinal preparations, and other conditions common to an office environment.
