Under the direction of a registered nurse, the Medical Assistant is responsible for assisting physicians, fellows, and nurses with evaluation, management, and treatment of patients during office visits, procedures and other tasks related to the visit/procedure consistent with his/her training and skills. His/her primary roles are to assure efficient patient flow through the unit; to maintain neat, clean and safe patient care areas, and to promote patient satisfaction by interacting with patients in a professional, friendly manner consistent with their needs.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Escort clinic patients to exam rooms, obtain vital signs, perform phlebotomy and EKGs
Maintain, troubleshoot, and act as main point of contact for all equipment
Arrange and coordinate all equipment preventative maintenance
Monitor the care of equipment, instruments, and supplies
Responsible for bronchoscope and sterilized equipment transport
Perform cleaning and high level disinfection (HLD) of all necessary equipment as needed
Monitor and maintain emergency carts in the ICUs
Maintain appropriate infection control measures
Responsible for supply inventory list and ordering all supplies for the unit.
Ensure rooms are appropriately stocked and maintain appropriate inventory par levels.
Staff clinic front desk when needed, including assistance with call triage, scanning and media uploads, workqueue management, additional needs upon request
Assist physician/nurse in all PSPU procedures (flexible bronchoscopy, thoracentesis, ICU procedures, among others). This includes room turnover between procedures, procedure set up, patient preparation and positioning.
Maintain annual competencies including those in sterile technique and HLD.
Perform additional miscellaneous tasks to help maintain an efficient workflow throughout the unit.
High School Diploma; BLS; CMA; Previous Medical experience preferred.
