The Advanced Practice Provider (APP) Manager in the MGH GI Division is an Advanced Practice Provider who is accountable for the delivery of consistent, high quality patient care, promoting the development and satisfaction of APP and support staff, providing operating efficiencies and ensuring compliance with hospital and regulatory policies and standards of practice. This role is responsible for effectively integrating both inpatient and outpatient Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants into the overall clinical infrastructure of the GI Division to develop collaborative interdisciplinary teams within each subspecialty. The role would be expected to perform 50% clinical activity, 4 clinical sessions per week.
This role is an essential leadership position in the MGH GI infrastructure, encompassing patient focused management, personnel management and development, clinical business administration of the unit, development of collaborative and team partnerships within interdisciplinary settings, and participation in MGH GI and MGH committees. The role works collaboratively with the clinical operations structures, including physician and administrative management teams.
Principal Duties and Responsibilites:
Responsible for direct oversight and management for MGH inpatient and outpatient GI Advanced Practice Providers. ~12 APP Direct reports
Interviews, hires, onboards and evaluates unit NP and PA staff. Responsible for evaluating staff performance and managing all issues related to HR. Implements corrective action according to hospital policy.
Responsible for implementing and evaluating approved policies, procedures and standards of care necessary for the coordination and delivery of excellent patient-focused care for the APP team.
Collaborates with the division leadership in planning the role of the nursing staff to achieve established practice goals.
Responsible for ensuring optimal use of NP/PA schedules within the unit. This includes keeping all schedules >85% utilized on a monthly basis. Working closely with administrative leadership to review financial models.
Promotes, develops and evaluates processes and systems for patient care; advocates for resources and systems improvements when necessary.
In collaboration with the Clinic Practice Manager and Ambulatory RN Manager, directs day-to-day activities of clinical staff
Identifies opportunities to integrate NP and PA resources to the clinical care teams to improve operational efficiencies, volume and patient access.
Responsible to maintain a panel of clinical patients for 4 sessions per week, session defined as 4 hours.
Provides direct care, counseling and teaching to patients
Performs physical examinations and provides preventative health measures appropriate to patient needs
Orders, interprets, and evaluates appropriate lab and diagnostic tests to assess patients' clinical problems and health care needs.
Arranges for appropriate plan of care and follow up based on outcome of diagnostic lab and physical assessment findings.
Performs laboratory tests appropriate for specific patient population.
Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
Records pertinent patient care findings in the medical record.
Sets priorities for appropriate and efficient management of patient care that reflects cost effective management of time, available human resources, supplies and equipment.
Maintains interdisciplinary approach to planning and communicating patient care information by discussing patient data with appropriate physicians and other health care professionals.
Incorporates the concepts of health maintenance, prevention, and promotion into daily practice through patient education and counseling.
Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Provider in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
Master's in Nursing or Physician Assistant studies
Minimum of 5 years experience in GI clinical practice and management preferred
