Community Resource Specialist - Responsibilities

Help inpatients and their families maximize their health and welfare by connecting them to community resources and public benefits. Community Resource Specialists collaborate with social worker colleagues to assess patient/family resource needs, educate about options, facilitate appropriate referrals and empower patients and families to advocate for themselves. Examples may include educating about various types of medical employment leaves (MA PFML, FMLA, COVID leave)- eligibility and how to apply, helping establish transportation (PT-1 and The RIDE medical necessity applications) and teaching how to use these systems, and helping identify, access and trouble-shoot various other social service systems and resources (not a complete list). This is an in-person position working with patients and families in person and via phone, email or through our virtual gateway. Great opportunity to learn about community resources, gain exposure to social work and the health care field and help shape these new positions joining our current resource specialists.

Salary & Benefits:

Hours: M-F 8:30am - 5:00pm (40 hours).

Location: In-person position at Mass. General Hospital main campus, Boston.


Required skills:

Seeking caring candidate with excellent customer service, problem-solving, written and verbal communication, organizational, and computer skills.

Bachelor's degree required; degree in related field or related experience strongly preferred. Must be willing to apply to become a notary public if eligible.
