Job Description:

SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Courier Manager, provides for the pick up and delivery of laboratory specimens between client offices and the laboratory. Area Knowledge and flexible schedule a plus.

• Understands and adheres to North Shore Medical Centers' (NSMC) compliance standards as they appear in Corporate Compliance Policies, Code of Conduct, and NSMC's Policies.
• Professional, Supervisory and Managerial Staff, keep abreast of all pertinent federal, state and NSMC regulations, laws, and policies as they presently exist and as they change or are modified.
• Managerial Staff ensure that their staff are trained and evaluated on their knowledge of and adherence to compliance policies and procedures specific to their jobs.
Job Specific Responsibilities; (e.g. clerical, patient care, food service, supervisory, etc.)
• Provides timely pick up of time sensitive specimens from multiple MGB Outreach client locations and deliver promptly to the Laboratory.
• Ability to communicate with dispatcher in a clear manner.
• Knowledge of Bluetooth phones for dispatching purposes.
• Deliver lab supplies throughout the day to various Outreach clients, Nursing homes, and other Hospitals while ensuring constant excellent customer service skills.
• Using laboratory vehicles, picks up laboratory specimens from client offices and delivers them to the laboratory for processing.
• Delivers lab reports, mail and other correspondence to client offices.
• Documents all pick up and deliveryinformation to route sheets in an appropriate and clear manner.
• Makes sure laboratory vehicles are maintained and kept neat and clean.
• Delivers supplies to client offices.
• Assists in maintaining a safe and clean environment in accordance with the OSHA Blood Borne Pathogens Standard, Infection Control and Safety Policies.
• Collaborate with members of the Laboratory Support Staff Team to promote department goals.
• Serves as a positive role model to others in areas of: Communication, Development of interpersonal relations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Responsible for service and operational excellence of all assigned department activities.
• Ensures the delivery of quality services andlor outcomes required to meet or exceed the expectations of those utilizing or impacted by the department

Job Qualifications; Brief description of the minimum qualifications for the job.

Skills: (Specific learned activity gained through training, e.g., typing, presentation skills, computer skills; e.g. Excel; CPR,ACLS)
• Required: Requires good attention and concentration. Good visual, verbal and hearing skills. Ability to deal with a wide
range of personality types and ages necessary. Able to read and write English. Basic computer skills which may be
obtained thru on the job training. The courier position is a physical, fast paced job that involves constant in and out of
lab car, a sense of urgency when it comes to walking to and from assigned lab car, in and out of client locations, along
with being able to lift items weighing up to 50lbs. All couriers will be responsible for day to day vehicle maintenance
and keeping their assigned a MGB lab car filled up and clean at all times. Must be able to drive and work in varying
weather conditions. Each courier route contains approximate 20 -35 stops, we have local and long distance routes
that operate 7 days a week.

Experience:

• Required: Five years of driving experience and an excellent driving record.
• Preferred: Familiarity and comfort with driving around all of the North Shore, Boston, Cambridge, Middleboro,
Belmont, Haverhill, Lawrence and surrounding areas is highly recommended.

Education/Degree requirements:

• Required: Completion of high school education or equivalent.
• Preferred:None
Licensure, Certifications, or Registration:
• Required: A Valid and Current Driver's License, and clean driver's record per NSMC policy, which will be reviewed
annually during employee's employment.

Qualifications

EXPERIENCE:


Five years of driving experience and an excellent driving record required


Familiarity and comfort with driving around all of the North Shore, Boston, Cambridge, Middleboro, Belmont, Haverhill, Lawrence and surrounding areas is highly recommended strongly preferred


EDUCATION:


Completion of high school education or equivalent.
