40 hours per week; Full-time; Benefits Eligible

The position of Medical Administrative Assistant (MAA) / Ophthalmic Assistant (OA) in Plainville/Providence combines two traditional roles (administrative and clinical) and reports into the Site Manager and Medical Director of the practices. In this role, you will provide modern retina care to patients in a team-oriented environment. The MAA/OA position will be responsible for coordinating patient flow during clinic and performing a full range of ophthalmic functions and testing evaluations. This role will also involve education patients on pre-surgical and post-surgical care, assistance with minor surgeries, injections, and laser procedures. The role also will be responsible for maintaining and cleaning instruments and equipment within the practices, in tandem with the other clinical staff.

The role will also support front desk administrative responsibilities, including check-in and check-out, phone triage and communication with patients regarding follow-up care and results, and work on prior authorizations. We are looking for motivated applicants who can be flexible to work in a fast-paced environment; preference for candidates who are quick learners with excellent computer skills. May be subject to work outside of regular business hours, including evenings and some weekends.

Under the direct supervision of the Service Director or designee assists in the processing of patients by performing ophthalmic technical support services.

1. Performs initial patient screening by taking history, documenting allergies, medication reconciliation, smoking status, problem list, pharmacy, vital signs.
2. Performs Administrative functions, covering front desk, checking in patients, etc.
3. Sets up and cleans examination and test rooms according to infection control standards
4. Insures that equipment is working properly and notifies appropriate personnel when a problem is identified
5. Maintains adequate supplies of medical/ophthalmic supplies in exam rooms 6. Performs all other duties required to assist in and/or insure the delivery of complete care and processing of patients
7. Provides technical assistance to all services in the practice as needed
8. Demonstrates the knowledge and skills necessary to provide services appropriate to the age of the patients served in the service.
9. Demonstrates knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span, possesses the ability to assess data reflective of the patients status and interprets the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age specific needs
10. Complies with all state, federal and local regulations and laws governing the performance of this position within this department.
11. Adheres to all the Infirmary policies and procedures, including confidentiality of patient and employee information, and attends annual in-service education.
