The Water Treatment Plant Operator will be responsible for operation and maintenance (O&M), monitoring, troubleshooting, and repair of various treatment plants. These may include groundwater treatment plants, wastewater pretreatment/treatment plants, drinking water treatment plants, soil vapor extraction/air sparge (SVE/AS) systems, or other treatment plants. The Treatment Plant Operator is responsible for general plant and property maintenance and implementation of onsite safety and quality control requirements.

In this role the Water Treatment Plant Operator will:

  • Operate Groundwater Treatment Plant consisting of some or all of the following components via computer-based SCADA/PLC:

    • Remote recovery wells

    • Air stripping tower

    • Vapor granulated activated carbon (VGAC) treatment vessels

    • Bag filtration unit

    • Advance oxidation process (AOP) unit

    • Liquid granulated activated carbon (LGAC) treatment vessels

    • Infiltration basin/wells for treated effluent

  • Periodic LGAC Backwashing

  • Oversight periodic LGAC and VGAC changeout by third party

  • Monthly sampling of plant influent and effluent

  • Calibration/Operation of Turbidity, Residual Chlorine, and pH meters

  • Maintain detailed logs/records of all plant activities

Non-Routine Duties:

  • Identify repair/upgrade needs and implement as appropriate

  • Oversight subcontractors for repair/upgrade as appropriate

The ideal candidate will have:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED) with more than three years of related experience and/or training.

  • New York State Department of Environmental Conservation and New York Water Environmental Association Grade 2A Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Certificate

  • Computer skills required: Microsoft Office Suite, Scheduling software, and Adobe

  • Certificates, licenses and registrations preferred:

    • Minimum- OSHA 40-hr HazWOPER and applicable 8-hr HazWOPER Refresher Training

    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret documents. Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints

Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • The employee must occasionally lift and /or move up to 100 pounds/ continually lift and/or move up to 50 pounds

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include: Close vision; Distance vision; Color vision; Peripheral vision; Depth perception and ability to adjust focus

  • Specific job duties that are affected by the environmental conditions selected above

  • Environmental conditions drive every second of field work

Field and site work:

  • Site walks and inspections

  • Mobilization and demobilization of field programs

  • Field/Construction Operations
