Position Summary:

The SomaExplore team is seeking a Scientist I to support the development and improvement of readout methods. The ideal candidate will combine superb technical, research, and analytical capabilities with a demonstrated ability to work quickly and effectively in a fast-paced environment. The SomaExplore group is a multi-disciplinary team responsible for the development and exploration of new technologies and methods to improve the existing SomaScan® assay. These activities include performance evaluations of existing and new methods, development of relationships with collaborators, rigorous data analysis of large data sets, development of protocols, transfer of procedures from research into production, and work on product and process improvements. In addition, the group is working on biochemical improvements to SomaLogic’s proprietary proteomic assay and development of cost reduction measures.


  • Optimization of SomaScan® DNA microarray-based readout and associated data analysis
  • Work in a multidisciplinary team to explore new technologies for present and future SomaScan® assays.
  • Assist in the characterization and optimization of existing assay protocols.
  • Develop new methods for enhancing assay sensitivity, specificity, and reproducibility.
  • Analysis of large datasets, including writing custom code for such analysis.
  • Assist in the QC of reagents required for development work.
  • Assist in the development of new methods for multiplexed detection of assay readout.
  • Set up and operate complex instrumentation and laboratory automation.
  • Plan, execute, and evaluate multiple scientific strategies in parallel where appropriate.
  • Demonstrate excellent organizational, analytical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Design and analyze experiments to support research and development of SomaLogic’s proprietary proteomics platform
  • Produce and communicate analysis reports to both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Prepare samples for Oligonucleotide quantification (i.e. DNA microarrays)
  • Coordinate the management of SomaScan® assay reagent inventories for the SomaExplore team
  • Work collaboratively with team members to perform experiments, document data, and communicate results in a timely manner
  • Provide support for other SomaLogic teams


  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Biochemical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology, or related field from an accredited institution with 1-6 years of research experience in an academic or industrial laboratory setting
  • Experience in data sciences and/or programming strongly preferred

Skills And Experience:

  • Experience in assay development is desirable.
  • Experience using computational techniques, data analysis, or other common tools for engineering.
  • Familiarity with a variety of molecular biology and biochemistry techniques including nucleic acid quantification and array hybridization
  • Experience in buffer preparation, chemical handling and safety.
  • Experience in performing both routine and exploratory data analysis using basic computer programs for analyzing and presenting data.
  • Comfortable working in a fast-paced environment and quickly adapt to changing or diverse analysis needs
  • Requires aptitude and desire for ongoing learning of new technical details related to statistics, engineering, and biochemistry
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent oral and written skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office

Work Environment:

Work is in typical office and laboratory environments with personal protective equipment use required in the laboratory. This position also involves extended time at a computer, frequent informal meetings and discussions with project managers and other team-members, and frequent interactions with collaborators.
