Position Summary:

The Chemistry team is seeking a Research Associate to assist in the characterization of SOMAmer® reagents. The individual’s responsibilities will include performing protein affinity assays and preparing samples for LC-MS analysis. Over time, this position could branch out to more advanced and multiplexed approaches and techniques, including large molecule mass spectrometry. Detailed documentation, organization and critical evaluation of results are essential traits for this position. Key Job Responsibilities:

  • Run SDS-PAGE gels on large numbers of protein samples in parallel
  • Perform pulldown and binding assays to investigate SOMAmer characteristics
  • Prepare protein samples for analysis via LC-MS
  • Program and operate liquid handling robots
  • Assist in the management of protein and SOMAmer inventories
  • Document data, perform experiments and communicate results in a timely manner
  • Work collaboratively with team members to design experiments and discuss results



BS in molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry or related field from an accredited institution with 0-2 years of work experience in an academic or industrial laboratory research setting

Skills and experience:

  • Experience with a variety of molecular biology and biochemistry techniques including protein binding assays, protein purification and gel electrophoresis
  • Experience with in-gel protein digestion and LC-MS is a plus
  • Familiarity with large molecule mass spectrometry (or parts thereof) is a plus
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with strict deadlines
  • Strong attention to detail and exceptional organizational skills
  • Excellent verbal and written skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (particularly Excel)
  • Affinity or interest in advanced statistical analyses
  • Experience with programming language (R, Python, C++, JavaScript) is a plus

Work Environment:

Work is in typical office and laboratory environments with personal protective equipment use required in the laboratory.
