TITLE:

Manager, Community Health and Advocacy

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP:


Director, Community Health Initiatives


BASIC FUNCTION:


Manage community health and community advocacy initiatives, including . the Community Pediatrics Training Initiative (CPTI), and coordinate related activities across the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP). Build and maintain partnerships with community organizations for children and academic organizations. Contribute to the development and implementation of strategies to integrate community health and related advocacy initiatives across AAP and externally with new and existing partners. Research and apply for external funding opportunities to continue to expand and enhance community health and community advocacy on behalf of the AAP.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:


1. Manage all community health and community advocacy training initiatives, including CPTI activities, and coordinate with related AAP staff, Section on Pediatric Trainees (SOPT), and other councils, sections, committees as needed.

2. Develop and implement strategies to expand community health and advocacy training to all pediatric residency programs. In collaboration with CPTI leaders, develop and implement strategies to identify and support emerging leaders to engage in CPTI activities and foster career paths in advocacy.

3. Cultivate partnerships with internal AAP staff and external organizations to advance community health and community advocacy programs.

4. In collaboration with Development and Finance staff, develop and maintain relationships with current and potential funders, prepare grant applications, and manage grant budgets.

5. Develop and manage contracts with CPTI leadership and other consultants.

6. Build and maintain network of residency program faculty participating in community health and advocacy training.

7. In conjunction with leaders, conceptualize, and write manuscripts for publication. Prepare Institutional Review Board applications and manage process for relevant projects.

8. Develop and implement plans to evaluate community health and community advocacy programs and initiatives.

9. Staff appropriate committees, subcommittees, and any project advisory groups to advance community health and advocacy.

10. Promote community health and advocacy internally and externally through various modalities, including presentations, websitea, newsletters, articles, communication with other AAP groups, academic organizations, and residency programs.

11. Provide technical assistance to, and oversee the program and financial management of CPTI grantees, including managing the complete grant award selection processes and supporting cohorts of grantees.

12. Perform all other duties as assigned.


EDUCATION:


Bachelor's degree in public health, health administration, public administration or a related discipline required or an equivalent combination of relevant education and work experience. Master's preferred.





EXPERIENCE:


At least three years' related experience in program management required, including budget management and program development, implementation, and evaluation, preferably related to child health or public health advocacy initiatives. ;. Experience with grant writing/management, pediatric resident education, and working in a medical association or with academic programs or community-based organizations preferred, as well as knowledge of health care environment, public health principles, community child health issues, and quality improvement.


ESSENTIAL SKILLS:


Excellent organizational, project management, writing, communication, critical thinking, diplomacy, and interpersonal skills required. Strong technical acumen essential with proficiency in MS Office and the ability to learn and apply new technologies; experience with virtual meeting platforms (eg, WebEx, Teams) preferred. Must be able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously within established deadlines, take initiative, work both independently and as part of a team, collaborate effectively with various internal and external constituents, and promote and maintain a positive and cooperative team-oriented work environment with a commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion. Some travel and evening/weekend work may be required, along with the need for flexibility in arranging work schedule to accommodate physicians' availability.
