Job Description:

U.S. Silica is a global performance materials company and a leading producer of commercial silica used in a wide range of industrial applications and in the oil and gas industry. EP Minerals is an industry leader in the production of products derived from diatomaceous earth, perlite, engineered clays, and non-activated clays. SandBox Logistics® is a state-of-the-art leader in proppant storage, handling and well-site delivery, dedicated to making proppant logistics cleaner, safer and more efficient. During our 121-year history, we have developed core competencies in mining, processing, logistics and materials science that enable us to produce and cost-effectively deliver over 400 diversified product types to customers across our end markets. As of December 31, 2020, we operated 23 production facilities across the United States. We control 489 million tons of reserves of commercial silica, which can be processed to make 197 million tons of finished products that meet American Petroleum Institute ("API") frac sand specifications, and 79 million tons of reserves of diatomaceous earth, perlite, and clays.


The Company is headquartered in Katy, Texas, and has an office located in Reno, Nevada.


The Process Engineer will be responsible for evaluating and improving processes in the manufacturing systems and driving cost improvement projects within the Crane, TX operation.


Essential Job Functions:



  • Improves process capability and production volumes while maintaining and improving quality, safety, environmental, and health standards. Provides data to track plant performance and identify bottlenecks

  • Partners with project engineering by reviewing engineering specifications and design proposals to improve reliability of new installations within cost and other performance requirements

  • Plans, develops, designs, manages and implements projects for plant modifications and operations.

  • Develops project estimates and cost proposals and participates in cost improvement analysis and recommendations.

  • Assures compliance of safety, health, and environmental regulations

  • Oversees outside contractors, plant personnel for construction projects, performs stockpile analysis and mine surveys.

  • Leads and implements the plant continuous improvement program. Trains operators on how to run the plant optimally

  • Back fills supervisor or management roles as needed.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Required Education, Experience, and Skills: 



  • Bachelors' Degree in Engineering - Mechanical, Mining, Chemical, Industrial or Electrical.

  • Knowledge of both maintenance and processing.

  • Mining experience is a plus; Minerals experience preferred.

  • Knowledge of dry processing is preferred. Including knowledge of rotary dryers, screens, bucket elevators, fans and dust collection.

  • Knowledge of wet processing is preferred. Including knowledge of slurry systems, scalping screens, and centrifugal pumps.

  • Experience with PLC software is a plus. Ideally, the candidate will have experience with loop tuning, burner control and interlocks.

  • Experience with HMI software is a plus. Ideally, the candidate will have experience with making high performance HMIs including an intuitive user interface.

  • Knowledge of predictive and preventative maintenance, TPM, root cause analysis, and continuous improvement.

  • Six Sigma Certification a plus.
