QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS
AGE: Minimum age at the time of hire is 21 years old. Maximum age at the time of application is 34 years old except: Applicants having previous full-time employment on an Illinois Fire Department or with an Illinois Fire Protection District; or applicants who have served the hiring department (as volunteer, paid-on-call, or part-time) for the five (5) years preceding the time the Department begins to use full-time firefighters.
EDUCATION: Minimum: Graduation from High School or GED equivalent minimum to apply. Prefer applicants with Fire Science college courses or degree in Fire Science or related field, and emergency medical technician (EMT) certification.
OTHER: U.S. Citizenship; valid driver’s license; physical condition to perform the essential functions of the position and pass physical agility exam; no felony conviction.
RESIDENCY: Applicants need not be residents of the City to apply. If hired, must establish and maintain permanent Peoria City residency at the end of one-year probationary period for ten full years of service.
PHYSICAL AGILITY EXAMINATION: CPAT (Candidate Physical Agility Test). CPAT card must be valid within one year of the Written Exams (2/26/2022). ALL CPAT SESSIONS WILL BE HELD AT CHAMPION BUILDING, 5921 N. GALENA ROAD, PEORIA, IL 61615. CPAT Orientation Sessions (Call 309-494-8721 to schedule appointment): 11/30/21, 12/2/21, and 12/4/21 from 8 am – 2 pm; CPAT Open Gym (No appointment needed): 12/7/21, 12/9/21, 12/14/21, 12/16/21, 1/4/22, 1/6/22, 1/11/22, 1/13/22, 1/18/22, and 1/20/22; 6 pm – 9 pm; CPAT Timed Practice Test Sessions (Call 309-494-8721 to schedule appointment): 1/15/22 and 1/22/22; 8 am – 4 pm; CPAT Final Test Examination (Call 309-494-8721 to schedule appointment): 1/27/22 - 2 pm – 7 pm; 1/28/21 – 8 am – 4 pm; 2/4/22 – 2 pm – 8 pm; and 2/5/22 – 8 am – 4 pm. Cost of the CPAT Card is $150 (Non City of Peoria Residents) and FREE (City of Peoria Residents) Must provide proof of residency (Valid State of Illinois Driver’s License). (Cash and money order accepted only)
WRITTEN EXAM ORIENTATION: Orientation sessions will be held at Peoria Public Library, 107 NE Monroe, Peoria, Illinois on Wednesday, 2/9/22, 4 pm – 6 pm (Basement-Auditorium) OR Saturday, 2/12/22, 9:30 am – 11:30 am (Basement-Auditorium). NOT MANDATORY
WRITTEN EXAMINATIONS: Thursday, 2/24/22, at 6:00 pm OR Friday, 2/25/22 OR Saturday, 2/26/22, at 9:00 am. You can choose which examination you would like to attend. There is no sign up needed.
