We have a new and exciting opportunity for a Vice President (VP), Government Sales. We are looking for a strong leader who has the ambition and drive to steer our sales team forward. The VP will have the ability to showcase their innovation and strategic mindset by continuing to transform the sales team through their leadership, strategy creation, direction, and resource stewardship to the organization's sales functions. The VP, Government Sales reports to the Senior Vice President, Healthcare Sales.

Essential Functions:

As the leader for Government Sales for the organization, this role is customer facing and will strategically focus on the attainment of company organizational goals of revenue growth and increased profitability.


  • Responsible for aligning the Government Sales objectives with the overall corporate business strategy through active participation in sales strategy development, sales resource planning and budgeting.

  • Create, foster, and continuously expand and refine a "pipeline" of future sales through business development and capture strategy.

  • Accountable for Government Sales organizational performance and profitable achievement of sales organization goals.

  • Provides leadership to the sales leadership teams, while fostering a culture of accountability, professional development, high-performance, and ethical behavior.

  • Developing new market opportunities within all Federal, State, and Local Government agencies.

  • Oversight and assistance with all Federal, State, and Local contracts.

  • Meets assigned targets for profitable sales volume, market share, and other key financial performance objectives.

  • Collaborates and communicates at all levels of the organization to meet corporate goals.

  • Leveraging relationships with customers and suppliers to enhance strategic partnerships and company profitability.

  • Networking as a means to expand business opportunities.

  • Cross-functional collaboration to define strategy and opportunities.

  • Reviewing, evaluating, and negotiating contract terms and contractual documents including Requests for Proposals (RFP), Requests for Quotations (RFQ), specifications or Statements of Work (SOW), vendor contracts, and government contracts with Federal, State and Local customers to ensure compliance with applicable laws and regulations, such as the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR).

  • Supports the achievement of strategic objectives critical to other functional areas within the organization.

  • Monitors and continuously evaluates the changing conditions of the government contracting industry. Implements policy changes into sales and business development strategy.

  • Involvement in professional organizations.

  • Travel required up to 50%.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Will Need to Be Successful:


  • Bachelor's degree in Business or related field; or equivalent combination of education and experience. MBA or advanced degree preferred.

  • Minimum of 15 years of progressive industry leadership experience preferred; with at least 10 years of direct management experience, including demonstrated success leading and motivating teams as well as managing cross-functional teams. Background in healthcare or distribution expected.

  • Government contracting knowledge or experience is also highly desired, to include familiarity with the Federal Acquisition Regulation (FAR), the competitive federal RFP/RFQ process, Indefinite-Delivery, Indefinite-Quantity (IDIQ) contract vehicles, GSA Schedules, Multiple-Award Contracts (MAC), Medical Surgical Prime Vendor (MSPV) with VA and DLA, Distribution and Pricing Agreement (DAPA), Federal Supply Schedule (FSS), Blanket Purchase Agreements (BPA), MMCAP Infuse, etc.

  • Familiarity or experience with agencies such as HHS, VA, DLA, IHS, BOP, and State Health Departments is also highly desired.

  • Proven success in business development and sales.

  • Proven leader with demonstrated experience in building high performing teams.

  • Experience with CRM software.

  • Ability to manage throughout the organizational structure.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to develop and present comprehensive reports. Ability to have difficult conversations when warranted (internal and external).

  • High level of confidence to build relationships with C-suite/owners/ decision maker.

  • Industry legal and compliance knowledge, especially in the field of Federal and State healthcare contracting.

  • Strategic mindset with strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and a proven ability to exercise initiative, judgment, and discretion.

  • Proven knowledge of industry's products and services; exhibits awareness of best sales practices and methods.

  • Exhibits strong interpersonal, negotiation and customer service skills.

  • Financially astute and able to create ROI.

  • Capable of conducting independent market research.

  • Ability to function well in a high-paced, competitive and at times stressful environment.

  • Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.

Work Location:


  • Nationwide. This role can be located near an existing distribution center; however, job duties can be performed in a remote work environment with easy access to a commercial airport.
