Idaho National Laboratory's (INL) Advanced Test Reactor (ATR) group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a technical career as a ATR Operations Facility Support Specialist.

The individual filling this position will be required to assist in the management of both maintenance and operational activities in the ATR Reactor.

Responsibilities Include:


  • Uses formal technical education and supervisory/hands-on experience in reactor operations to manage various assignments within ATR Operations. Additionally, will frequently be responsible for the development of LabWay or equivalent system corrective action plans and subsequent implementation.

  • Act as liaison between ATR Operations Facility Support Assistant Manager and ATR Shift Supervisor on operations support and reactor outage work in order to minimize reactor control room distractions to the operating crew.

  • Collaborate with outside organizations as the ATR Operations representative regarding maintenance scheduling, operations, and engineering activities that impact plant operation.

  • Perform management self-assessments of all aspects of ATR Operations, ATR Critical (ATRC) facility, Nuclear Materials Inspection and Storage (NMIS) facility, and Utility Area (UA) work activities that could affect these areas as directed by the ATR Operations Facility Support Assistant Manager.

  • Review proposed changes to ATR plant and experimental facilities and work documents to ensure they are compatible with safe and efficient operations and other ATR organization objectives.

Minimum Requirements:

Level 2: Bachelor degree plus 2 years relevant nuclear reactor operations experience,

OR 10 years relevant experience in lieu of a bachelors degree will be considered.

Level 3: Bachelor degree plus 5 years relevant nuclear reactor operations experience

OR 13 years relevant experience in lieu of a bachelors degree will be considered.


  • US Citizen. Must be able to obtain and maintain a DOE L security clearance.

  • Some experience in the nuclear industrial environment is required.

  • Working knowledge in the areas of radiological controls and quality assurance.

Preferred Requirements:


  • Strong working knowledge using and maintaining Microsoft Office software helpful. Experience with eSOMS; basic computer network knowledge highly desirable; Technical writing (eCR); Basic database knowledge.
