Job Title: Bi-Lingual Family Development Case Manager

Postion Summary:

This position provides comprehensive services with families and children of the Latino Family Center with an emphasis on families with children aged birth to five (5) years. The Family Development Case Manager works respectfully with the families in a strengths model approach to help families become self-sufficient and integrates oneself into the community.

Duties and Responsibilities:


  1. The Family Development Case Manager will follow the Family Support Principles and carry a caseload of 20 intensive families.

  2. Conduct meetings with all potential enrollees and complete all program documentation.  Actively recruit new families for the program.  Provide positive family communications.  Work with the Site Director to identify families in need of services.

  3. The incumbent will provide two home visits per month to each family with a focus on child development, parent involvement, health records/health services, nutrition, family support services, prenatal, etc.  Provide age appropriate child development activities and sharing.   Meet with enrollees to develop a family plan, goal plan and monitor progress.  Promote parent-child attachment among family members.  Provide practical, emotional, and social support to families through home visits and Center activities.  Crisis intervention and assistance to families in developing support networks.

  4. The incumbent will maintain a collection of data and documentation and update each family file at all times.  The incumbent will perform other data related responsibilities as assigned by the Site Director and/or Senior Family Development Case Manager and communicate with Site Director and/or Senior Family Development Case Manager and Service Coordinator on families? progress on a regular basis or as requested.

  5. Welcome and interact with all families at the center.  Assist in center management, for example, cleaning and maintaining the center. 

  6. Actively carry out resource and referral work to community agencies and professionals and develop and maintain relationships with service providers.  Advocate with families to providers, school districts, Department of Public Welfare, Children Youth and Families and other systems. 

  7. Encourage families to participate in groups and activities.  Facilitate, participate and coordinate weekly parent support and parent/child interaction groups and evening groups.

  8. Assist in childcare for ESL, Parent Council and as needed determined by the site director. 

  9. Nurture and support families and peers. 

  10. Participate in reciprocal relationships based on respect.  Serve as an equal member of the Family Center team.  Treat everyone with respect.

  11. Participate in training and information which would serve families and team as directed by Site Director.  Pursue 20 hours of training in social service related topics approved by the Site Director.  Provide training/guidance in areas of expertise.

  12. Strict adherence to confidentiality.

  13. Flexible schedule for some evening and weekend hours.

  14. Assume other responsibilities as assigned by Site Director and Senior Family Development Case Manager.  


  1. Bachelor?s Degree in child development, education, family relations, social work or guidance and counseling or human service field and two (2) years? experience in case management and services to families or

  2. Associates Degree in child development, education, family relations, social work or guidance and counseling or human service field and three (3) years? experience in case management or five (5) years working with youth and families.

  3. Ability to work with the parents and children in a home environment.  Community services experience preferred.

  4.  Must understand issues related to Latino immigrants (cultural values, immigration statuses, and how they affect eligibility for services in the community). 

  5. Must be bilingual English/Spanish (read, write and speak fluently in both languages).  Portuguese language skills are a plus.

  6. Strong communication, writing and interpersonal skills.

  7. Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  8. Ability to work under pressure, be flexible, and work as part of a team.  Ability to think creatively, plan and organize complex work projects. 

  9. Self-motivated; demonstrate initiative and ability to follow through with completion of tasks. 

  10. Skilled in the use of Microsoft Office Suite including Word, PowerPoint, Access, Excel and Outlook, and willingness to experiment and work with new technologies. 

  11. Ability to travel.

  12. Ability to comply with the AIU Conduct policy.

Additional Requirements:


  1. Current Act 114, Act 34, Act 151 and NSOR Clearances required prior to an offer (Must be dated within 1 year of hire date).

  2. School Personnel Health Record (Form H511.340) must be completed and received by Human Resources prior to hire date.
