As a Senior Financial Planner, Guided Pathways, you are responsible for providing high-value financial planning phone consultations, goal-based financial plans, and financial planning educational webinars to high balance participants and retirees. The Senior Financial Planner, Guided Pathways works on the Financial Planning Services team, which proactively engages high balance participants/retirees, via email marketing campaigns, in conversations about retirement readiness, financial planning, and investment advice (advice offered through Morningstar Investment Management). The Senior Financial Planner, Guided Pathways is responsible for giving an outstanding experience to participants/retirees with more than $200,000 in assets, assisting them with financial planning consultations, and when needed goal-specific financial plans, to put participants/retirees on a path to a successful financial future where MissionSquare Retirement is the provider of choice.

Essential Functions for this role include:


  • Provide point-in-time financial guidance to participants/retirees via a phone-based consultation. Appointments primarily generated through direct email marketing campaigns to target audience

  • Take an in-depth consultative approach to analyze, assess and find appropriate solutions to meet client needs based on the breadth of MissionSquare Retirement’s service offerings (i.e. goal-specific financial planning, Managed Accounts, account aggregation, lifetime guaranteed income funds, etc.)

  • Educate participants/retirees on financial planning topics and investment strategies to enable participant/retiree to achieve their goals. Identify the appropriate risk tolerance, discuss appropriate savings or spending strategies and provide additional financial planning solutions as needed. Provide both verbal and written plans to communicate the recommended strategies following department guidelines

  • Deliver various retirement and general financial education workshops to high balance participants and retirees on a regular basis, via a webinar platform, or occasionally in person at a Plan Sponsor location

  • Gain a deep understanding of participant/retiree’s unique needs and aspirations to confidently advise them on their financial goals

  • Be an active part of a collaborative team and share best practices

  • Follows practical application of all compliance, regulatory, and company policies and guidelines

  • Travel to Plan Sponsor locations as agreed upon by Plan Sponsor and MissionSquare Retirement 

If you have the following credentials, we encourage you to apply:


  • 5-7 years of Financial Services experience with extensive client interaction. Some sales experience.

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct client facing financial planning consultations and small group meetings either in person or using technology

  • Ability listen to clients’ needs and make decisions/take actions that help participants/retirees achieve their long-term goals

  • Knows how to follow the proper risk, supervision, and controls guidelines to deliver the best outcomes for participants/retirees

  • Demonstrated integrity, adherence to policy and high standards

  • Self-directed and continuous learner

  • Strong public speaking skills

  • Exceptional investment acumen and knowledge of broader financial planning topics

  • Thorough knowledge of MissionSquare Retirement products and services

  • Able to adjust style of communication to best connect with others

  • Industry expertise in 457, 401, 403b, IRA’s and other qualified retirement plans

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills also required.
