Basic Job Functions:

Will conduct and/or drive developmental tests. May compile and analyze data testing, and review results with engineering personnel to improve efficiency and stability of solar modules.

Education & Experience:

The actual position offered will be based on the candidate's education and experience that aligns best. 

Level I:


  • High School Diploma or equivalent and 6 years of experience in a Technician role or 2 years of experience as an Engineering Test Support II or Master Manufacturing Technician at First Solar.

  • Associate Degree in an engineering discipline or similar technical discipline and 1year of experience in a Technician role or 2 years of experience as an Engineering Test Support II or Master Manufacturing Technician at First Solar.

  • BS or MS degree in an engineering discipline or similar technical discipline, without prior technical work experience.

Level II:


  • AS degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, electronics, or materials science required with 5+ years of experience in a similar role OR

  • BS degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, electronics, or materials science required with 1-2 years of experience OR

  • MS degree in engineering, physics, chemistry, electronics, or materials science required with 0-1 year of experience

  • 1-year experience in a DET I position at First Solar

Required Skills/Competencies:


  • Proven communication skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to follow verbal and/or written instructions/test plans

  • Knowledge or have the ability to learn to use JMP and SQL applications

  • Knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint…)

  • Average ability to use tools and operating equipment is required (micrometers, multimeters, power supplies, data logger…)

  • Good team player with proven track record to stay focused during tasks, pay attention to detail, and be well organized with respect to task execution, sample collection, and submission.

  • Excellent problem-solving ability

Essential Responsibilities:


  • Responsible to ensure that all the work completed as per the schedule

  • May adapt procedures, processes, tools, equipment, and techniques to meet the more complex requirements of the position

  • Able to work independently with little supervision

  • Responsible to communicate immediately any abnormal finding on the product or testing equipment

  • Ability to support production line activities and measurements as needed

  • Adheres to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.  

  • Duties and tasks are may be routine

  • Responsible to assist in any other task or job assigned by supervisor

US Physical Requirements:


  • Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift

  • Will climb stairs on an occasional basis

  • Will lift, push, or pull up to 27 pounds on an occasional basis

  • May lift up to 50 lbs

  • Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis

  • 20/40 vision in each eye, with or without correction, is required

  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures

  • May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis

  • May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, protective jacket or apron, and arm guards)

  • All associates working on the production floor may be required to wear a respirator at any given time and thus, the ability to wear a respirator is a condition of employment and continued employment (requires little or no facial hair)
