Essential Duties and Responsibilities


To perform the job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Duties and responsibilities include the following, other duties may be assigned:


Constructing New Tooling



  • Creates initial molds based on specifications from design team, blueprints, or schematics.

  • Create and develop new tooling for molds, die cast tooling, and metal stamping tools, using the specifications that have been provided.

  • Machine various mold details using mills, grinders, surface grinder, various measuring equipment and other required equipment and tools.

  • Use various measuring and gauging tools to perform necessary inspections before, during, and after molding operations.

  • Perform all aspects of producing prototype molds including the use software to aid in design and machining.

  • Conduct quality control testing before mold enters production cycle.

  • Automate assembly machine design.


Setting up Equipment



  • Set up equipment by studying the mold requirements and materials; look at the tolerances for each to make sure they're appropriate for the intended use.

  • Train maintenance technicians.

  • Adhere to safety standards and ISO requirements.


Planning Molds



  • Using blueprints, plan the molds they need to create by following instructions and sketches.

  • Work with specifications from the design team.


Maintaining or Repairing Existing Molds



  • Be responsible for making sure the existing tooling and molds are still effective.

  • Work with Maintenance Technicians to regularly maintain molds and repair any damage when required.

  • Set up equipment based on mold requirements, materials, and tolerances.

  • Execute production runs.


Creating Prototype Products



  • Check how things will work, create prototype products, fixtures, and jigs prior to production.

  • Design intricate plastic injection molds with complete sets of detail drawings.

  • Produce 2D drawings of each injection mold.


Management & Supervisory



  • Directly supervise associates engaged in mold servicing and repair.

  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws

  • Interview, hire, coach, counsel, reward and discipline associates

  • Develop associate's professional and personal growth through cross-training and mentoring

  • Coordinate all training activities for the Mold Technicians

  • Direct workers engaged in manufacturing


Qualifications


The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.



  • High school or a vocational school diploma

  • Successful completion of a formal apprenticeship program, technical school training program, or company-provided training program

  • A minimum of 10 years of footwear manufacturing experience in maintenance and mold creation

  • A minimum of five (5) years of experience working with precision equipment and tools

  • Exceptional level of math skills and experience with schematics

  • Strong manual dexterity to be able to keep their arm steady and maneuver their wrists and fingers to create the molds

  • Ability to identify problems during a task and find or develop solutions to them, so good problem-solving skills

  • Superior technical skills to be able to inspect products and select the right equipment, tools, and measuring devices for the job

  • Excellent communication and teamworking skills

  • Good time management skills to manage time effectively in order to carry out multiple tasks at once and still meet the necessary deadlines

  • Possess and maintain knowledge of materials and products


Physical Requirements:



  • Prolonged periods standing

  • Must be able to lift and move up to 50 pounds at a time

  • Repetitive motions such as twisting or turning

  • Ability to work in a resounding and distracting noise level

  • Superior manual dexterity, muscular control, and delicate touch necessary to complete precision work without damaging valuable molds

  • Visual acuity to read blueprints and perform visual inspections
