Overview

Summary

The Staff Accountant is responsible for fixed assets of assigned locations, including maintenance of fixed asset system (FAS), journal entries, maintenance of fixed asset projects (appropriation requests), general ledger reconciliations, fixed asset reporting, property tax statements, bank deposits and other general accounting duties/projects as assigned. This position works closely, on a daily basis, with the corporate office to assure that all field accounting needs are met.

Responsibilities

General Duties

    Representation of Atlantic Aviation in a professional and positive manner.
  • Application of the principles of the "Atlantic Attitude" at all times.

  • Compliance with all Company policies and procedures.

  • Interaction with customers, vendors, and Atlantic Aviation employees in a professional and courteous manner.

  • Communication of work progress and significant issues with the General Manager and/or Regional Manager.

Essential duties and responsibilities include (but not limited to):


  • Responsible for month-end close journal entries, allocations to subsidiaries, balance sheet account reconciliations, coding of corporate invoices, etc.

  • Prepaid commercial insurance (aviation, property, auto, workers compensation, environmental, etc.) including monthly allocation to all subsidiaries/locations.

  • Employee medical/dental self-insurance liability and other benefits liabilities allocated monthly to subsidiaries/locations.

  • Intangible assets - monthly amortization, reconciliation, reporting, etc. and future set-up and maintenance in Fixed Asset System (Sage Software)

  • Weekly coding/verification of corporate invoices/employee expense reports for weekly accounts payable check-run and month-end close.

  • Income tax balance sheet accounts - reconciliations, audit schedules, financial reporting, etc.

  • Research state/municipal tax notices/invoices and coordinate with outsourced tax department to resolve.

  • Prepare schedules in support of financial reporting process on a monthly, quarterly and annual basis.

  • Assist with quarter-end and year-end audit and tax provision information requests, including maintenance of quarterly/annual lead schedules in FRx reporting tool.

  • Assist with annual federal and state income tax return information requests from outsourced tax department (Big 4).

  • May assist with month/quarter/year-end financial reporting, FRx reporting, special projects, etc.

  • Assist with Sarbanes-Oxley Section 404 compliance.


  • Report work progress and significant issues to facility General Managers and/or Regional Controller.

  • Comply with company policies and procedures as well as applicable laws and regulations.

  • Interact with other Atlantic employees and customers in a courteous and professional manner.

  • May assist General Managers with preparing the annual budget.

Qualifications

EDUCATION AND QUALIFICATIONS


  • Minimum two (2) years experience in accounting, preferably with medium to large company.

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting.

  • Knowledge of Great Plains general ledger system helpful but not required.

  • Ability to complete tasks accurately within established timelines.

  • Ability to work well with others including local & remote offices, auditors, etc.

  • Familiar with a variety of the accounting field's concepts, practices, and procedures.

  • Minimum of 18 years of age.

  • Previous customer service experience.

  • Good communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Excellent organizational skills.

  • Must maintain a valid state driver's license.

  • Proficiency in use of MS Office applications including Word, Excel and Outlook.
