Department: BBH Emergency Shelter Program

Hours: Variable 8 hour shifts

The Security Officer monitors BBH facilities and helps to provide a safe and secure environment for patients, visitors, and staff of Virginia Mason.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or GED required. Basic certification through the International Association for Healthcare Security and Safety (IAHSS) required within three months of position entry; Advanced certification required within six months of position entry. Also required is a demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team. Strong problem-solving ability, willingness to challenge individuals and defuse situations in a polite and professional manner. Must be willing to work directly with those in a crisis situation. Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds, and the ability to remain courteous and considerate while working in a demanding and stressful situation. Candidates must be at least 21 years of age.

Preferred: 2 years uniformed officer or guard experience in a healthcare setting or an Associate's degree in Criminal Justice.
