About the Position

VHB has an immediate need for a Survey Manager to join our Raleigh, North Carolina office and build our Land Surveying practice in North Carolina. The successful candidate must be knowledgeable in Land Surveying for a variety of applications, including boundary determinations, topographic surveys, utility surveys, highway surveys, and subdivisions. The position requires hands-on knowledge of current technologies, and a proven ability to develop business, manage projects and mentor staff. Experience developing NCDOT experience is preferred.

Responsibilities


  • Recruit, hire and develop a competent field and office survey staff

  • Develop new business to compliment survey work for other VHB groups

  • Manage workload, staffing and quality control for all survey efforts

  • Develop and mentor staff

  • Project management, including management of budget, scope and schedule for small, moderate and large land survey projects

  • Coordinate survey efforts with other groups in an integrated services environment

  • Oversee Land Survey group performance with respect to financial and other metrics

Skills and Attributes


  • Must be very knowledgeable in all aspects of Land Surveying, especially technical

  • Strong office computer skills (e.g., Word, Excel, Deltek, OneNote, Teams, etc.);

  • Familiarity with North Carolina local government subdivision and zoning requirements.

  • Proficient with least-squares adjustment, preferably StarNet, combining GPS and conventional data.

  • Ability to post-process GPS static data

  • Experience with LiDAR data collection (terrestrial, mobile and aerial), registration & feature extraction.

  • Excellent AutoCAD Civil 3D skills with styles, codes, feature lines and surfaces.

  • Ability to direct and monitor construction layout services.

  • Must be able to go to the field as needed and proficiently lead and mentor individual and crews in solve technical issues.

  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills; and

  • Excellent teamwork and collaboration skills

Qualifications


  • 10 plus years of experience in Land Surveying.

  • Bachelor's degree in Land Surveying, Civil Engineering, or a related field

  • North Carolina Professional Land Surveyor license
