KERO, the Scripps ABC station in Bakersfield, CA has an opening for a Chief Photographer

The Chief Photographer is a working supervisor, responsible for capturing and editing visual content for multiple platforms as well as operating news gathering equipment.  This position supervises our photographers and editors.

WHAT YOU'LL DO:


  • Shoot, capture, and edit visual content for multiple platforms.

  • Post content to station's Web sites.

  • Supervise direct reports supporting their development, conducting performance evaluations, and creating work schedules.

  • Responsible for operating and training others on various news gathering equipment, including but not limited to TVU's, various cameras, and video editing equipment.

  • Drive company vehicle for business purposes; and, responsible for news fleet station operations; including, maintenance and administrative tasks.

  • Train photographers, editors, and multimedia journalist  on lighting and computer based editing, including Final Cut Pro, I-News products.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU'LL NEED:

Education & Experience/Certifications


  • High school diploma or equivalent.

  • 2 or more years experience as a photographer for a news station.

  • Previous  supervisory experience.

  • Knowledge and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws.

WHAT YOU'LL BRING:


  • Successfully perform related duties as a Chief Photographer

  • Good organization, attention to detail.

  • Demonstrate the ability to be a proactive thinker

  • Ability to work under pressure

  • Excellent communication skills.

  • Knowledge and demonstration of creativity, editorial judgment, journalistic ethics and libel laws..

  • Must be able to lift up to 75 pounds.

  • Valid driver's license and good driving record required. In addition, proof of insurance and liability coverage may be required.
