As a Sr. Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Engineer, you will have the opportunity to tap into your curiosity and collaborate with some of the most innovative and diverse people around the world. Here, you will make an impact by:


  • Providing expert process safety support to all Menomonie departments regulated by 3M and OSHA Process Safety Management requirements using established tools, including Process Hazard Analysis (PHA) and Combustible Dust Hazard Analysis (DHA) for inspection, analysis, identification, and prioritization of potential process hazards.

  • Evaluating safety risk and recommending controls, coordinating the development of process information, and collaborating with internal stakeholders and technical resources on control solutions.

  • Training, coaching, and mentoring others involved in safety improvement activities including developing and providing training on process safety topics and developing and reporting leading metrics and best practices.

  • Serving as a local resource assisting in the development and implementation of site-specific safety programs and more spontaneous engineering support in such areas as code and standards interpretation.

  • Performs and guides technical safety activities resulting from approved self-initiated or assigned programs leading to innovative applications and extensions of existing or new programs/systems having major importance to the business within the assigned area of responsibility.

  • Leading and/or participating on incident investigations that are related to PSM, risk assessment teams, and EHS self-assessments and/or audits.

  • Supporting major capital projects, in design consulting, technical quality assurance and start-up assistance.

  • Supporting site wide EHS programs, systems, and processes including a willingness to be on-call for emergencies.

Your Skills and Expertise 

To set you up for success in this role from day one, 3M requires (at a minimum) the following qualifications:


  • Bachelor’s degree or higher (completed and verified prior to start) from an accredited institution

  • Three (3) years of EHS experience within a private, public, government or military environment

Additional qualifications that could help you succeed even further in this role include:


  • Bachelor's degree or higher in Chemical Engineering and/or a master’s degree in Safety or engineering-related field form an accredited institution

  • Three (3) years of combined experience performing risk assessments/analysis techniques such as: Process Hazard Assessment (PHA), Layers of Protection (LOPA), RAP (Risk Assessment & Prioritization) and RAM (Risk Assessment for Machines)

  • Experience with safety instrumented systems

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP) certification by the Board of Certified Safety Professionals or CCPS Process Safety Professional Certification (CCPSC).

  • Proficient with using PHA Pro/Stature Risk PHA software

  • Experience with Quantitative Risk Analysis (QRA)

  • Project management skills with ability to set objectives and deliver results to move process safety forward.

Location: Menomonie, WI

Travel: May include up to 10% domestic/international
