Navarro Research and Engineering is recruiting for an Engineered Systems Tec 1 in Los Alamos, NM.

This position will support the Los Alamos National Laboratory as a Navarro employee in a staff augmentation position. This position does not have relocation assistance or per Diem.

Performs technical installation and/or maintenance functions supporting engineering activities. Installs, tests, repairs, and maintains systems and equipment. Specific duties may include testing, inspecting, and monitoring system and equipment for safety and efficiency, providing routine and specialized maintenance and/or repair, troubleshooting malfunctions, and coordinating any system or equipment shutdown, upgrade, or installation. Works from documentation, written or verbal instructions, schematics, rough sketches, diagrams, layouts, and plans. Normally assigned in areas such as development, engineering, test equipment, system checkout, or fabrication. Help with the primary experimental fixtures in the Aerosol Engineering Facility. These include:

  • RRFMC Respirable Release Fraction Measurement Chamber. (Ref: LAUR-18-31809). The RRFMC is a drop tower system integrated into a HEPA filtered aerosol wind tunnel.
  • FTS Filter Test System. (Ref: LAUR-20-26861). The FTS measures the pressure drop and particle collection efficiency of filters in the lids of nuclear material storage containers.
  • FPM Filter Performance Measurement system. (Ref: LAUR-18-30267). The FPM measures the pressure drop and particle collection efficiency of 47 mm diameter filter materials.
  • PARE (Pressurized Airborne Release Equipment) (Ref: LAUR-19-21027). This system measures the release of pressurized test powder from an ASME pressure vessel.
  • Help design, build and test some of the secondary systems associated with the primary experimental fixtures in TA-3-130.
  • Help manage instrument inventory with the LANL Metrology laboratory. https://int.lanl.gov/org/ddops/aldeshqss/quality-performance-assurance/metrology-program-calibration-laboratory/index.shtml
  • Help to salvage equipment, perform equipment and chemical inventory, maintain and operate laboratory systems.
  • Help with chemical management and disposal.
    Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Visio will be incorporated in the work.

  • On the job training supervised by Murray Moore. Basic calculations involve length, time, velocity, density, force, pressure and torque. Unit conversions between English and SI systems required.
  • The employee will learn policies and procedures in an engineering laboratory.
    Involvement will add depth to the work experience.
