Position is located in Ithaca, NY, within the Office of the Vice Provost for International Affairs on the campus of Cornell University.

What is Cornell University and what is the Office of the Vice Provost for International Affairs?

Cornell University, unique among peers, is the federal land-grant institution of New York State, a private endowed university, and a member of the Ivy League. The Office of the Vice Provost of International Affairs (OVPIA)(https://global.cornell.edu)under the framework of "Global Cornell" is comprised of internationally engaged units which foster high-impact international research and collaborations, teach and mentor the next generation of global citizens, and support international experiences and cultural exchange for all Cornellians. Our units include Global Hubs, Global Learning (Education Abroad & International Services), Global Operations, Mario Einaudi Center for International Studies, and Migrations: A Global Grand Challenge. Together, we make a world of difference.

What are Global Hubs?

The OVPIA is leading a new strategic initiative called Global Hubs. As a pan-university effort, we are working in consultation with university leadership and faculty, students, and staff across Cornell's colleges, schools, and programs to develop an innovative model for sustained interdisciplinary collaborations in locations worldwide (https://global.cornell.edu/global-hubs). Global Hubs are strategically placed, concentrated pockets of Cornell engagement that connect the entire university with strong international peer institutions and their communities, countries, and regions. No two Hubs will be identical, but they will all share Cornell's academic distinction, educational verve, and civic responsibility-under the umbrella of One Cornell. There will be approximately 15 Global Hubs in the portfolio, and in some cases, multiple institutional partners in one location. More than 200 staff and researchers at Cornell have expressed an interest in engaging in the Hubs, and we are growing a similar cohort at partner institutions. Student mobility will anchor these partnerships, and we anticipate hundreds of outgoing and incoming students to participate in semester-, summer-, and short-term study and research as well.

What you will do:

You'll combine strategic planning with action, relying on your strong organizational and communication skills, to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders build and enhance key international partnerships, inspire collaboration, and bring a strategic vision to life. Fundamentally, Global Hubs will only be as strong and vibrant as our partnerships, so you will have a drive for building relationships and deepening engagement, while managing the day-to-day operations of the initiative.

This project is truly collaborative. You will partner closely with the Global Hubs working group who are responsible for tackling specific facets of the project including: solutions for Cornell students to go abroad and international visiting students to study or research at Cornell (Office of Global Learning); faculty to co-teach and research through collaborative partnerships abroad (OVPIA, Einaudi Center and Colleges/Schools); providing an outlet for internationally located alumni to engage with Cornell (OVPIA and Alumni Affairs); and building new or growing existing public/private partnerships abroad (Colleges/Schools, Einaudi Center, and OVPIA). Each partner institution also has a Cornell sub-committee which includes faculty and staff who are engaging within their own areas of work. The initiative is complex, and you will be instrumental in tracking and advancing the deliverables of multiple committees working to set up this initiative, and then once the Hubs are launched, you'll deepen and expand engagement.

You'll ensure the project stays on target by working with the OVPIA and relevant stakeholders on overall project management through monitoring and reporting of progress through defined objectives, activities, targets, and outputs. This responsibility will involve developing a digital solution and dashboards to keep track of these moving parts. Legal agreements may be required to realize our goals, and you'll be responsible for initiating, negotiating, and tracking them. Budgeting for each of the sites and the overarching program will also be in your purview. You'll also oversee any joint seed funding programs, including application management and coordinating the relevant committees on decisions.

The position will report to the AVP/Exec. Director of Global Operations, working closely with the Vice Provost of International Affairs and with additional direction and accountability to the Global Hubs working group.

What experience will you bring?

The ideal candidate comes with deep experience in strategic planning and project management within higher education, as well as significant experience with building a program from the ground up, exercising lateral influence, external relations and international affairs, and communications strategy and planning. You should have experience building and maintaining relationships externally with academic and institutional leaders as well as the public/private sector. Experience with managing KPIs, complex budgets, tracking impact, and leveraging technology to it make it seamless would be a major bonus.
