The School of Industrial and Labor Relations at Cornell University has an immediate opening for a Extension Support Specialist II - Employer Technical Assistance Specialist position in the K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability in the Extension/Outreach Division, which is a research, extended education, and technical assistance program of a national and regional scope that provides research, information and training on disability and the workplace.

This position will provide technical assistance support for the K. Lisa Yang and Hock E. Tan Institute on Employment and Disability, which is a research, extended education and technical assistance program of a national and regional scope that provides research, information and training on disability and the workplace. The position's emphasis will be on the Employer Assistance and Resource Network (EARN), a Federal grant funded by the Office of Disability Employment Policy (ODEP).

The Employer Technical Assistance Specialist will serve as the primary expert on employer facing disability inclusion efforts and will be responsible for technical assistance coordination for EARN. Position will independently, and in partnership with extension faculty, be responsible for program design and development on disability inclusion efforts and best practices for employers and for managing, responding to, and recording requests for technical assistance from employers via email or in phone consultation with employer representatives.

Responsibilities include external communication with EARN Stakeholders for the purposes of coordinating technical assistance offerings, development and delivery of learning program portfolios and technical assistance activities that focus on disability inclusion. The Employer Technical Assistance Specialist will also develop and deliver programs on general disability inclusion topics on behalf of EARN. The position is responsible for implementation of strategically important programs to all EARN Stakeholders. Interacts with external outreach to employers in order to foster long-term relationships to benefit EARN is an important component of this position. The role requires a strong knowledge of the organizational disability inclusion efforts including self-identification, implementing reasonable accommodation policy and practice, workplace mental health and well-being, web accessibility, and other efforts to ensure that people with disabilities are included at work. The Employer Technical Assistance Specialist will serve as a coordinator for many of the EARN's external training efforts and oversees all EARN Technical Assistance efforts.

The position demands the ability to work as part of a successful team, communicate professionally, manage multiple tasks, prioritize work on simultaneous projects, and work successfully under pressure with minimal supervision at a variety of tasks within a fast-paced, team-oriented, diverse office setting.

Required Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree and three to five years of relevant experience or equivalent combination.

  • Four or more years of job related experience in disability inclusion and disability law and policy.

  • Three to four years of experience in training and technical assistance program design, development and delivery.

  • Demonstrated experience in consulting and training on disability inclusion.

  • Knowledge on managing high quality, cutting-edge learning programs for contemporary organizations.

  • Demonstrated experience with service coordination, consulting services and client relationship management.

  • Limited travel required in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in a related field.

  • Six or more years of job related experience in disability inclusion and disability law and policy.

  • A combination of related formal education and experience in disability inclusion consulting.

  • Demonstrated understanding of disability rights law, policy, and best practice around implementation of disability inclusion programs within employer organizations.

  • General understanding of the grant proposal process to secure funding for programs and services.
