Job Description:

TITLE

Technical Leader.

REPORTS TO

Manager, Operations

SUMMARY

The Technical Leader will work with all levels of personnel through the plant to identify, prioritize and lead resolution and repair of manufacturing equipment and to continuously enhance equipment reliability, within his/her assigned operations department, through the utilization of continuous improvement tools, practices and programs. The successful candidate will also support Smucker Quality Management Systems (SQMS) by coordinating maintenance efforts that contribute and support production, quality, safety and food requirements. In addition, this role will lead plant capital projects, when required, while ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule and within budget. This role will utilize internal and external resources to achieve business objectives and targeted deliverables and will communicate throughout all levels of the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Continuous Improvement


  • Manage the requests for changes to software, logic, information, and controls

  • Provide leadership for continued upgrades to electrical controls, hardware, software, etc.

  • Develop and provide electrical resources to support project design and implementation

Electrical Maintenance Leadership


  • Continuous documentation of all programs, critical machine settings, manuals, etc.

  • Specify and assure consistency of electrical devices on new and replacement equipment

  • Manage the completion of work order requests involving programming

  • Insure electrical drawings reflect actual wiring and controls

Long Range Planning/New Technology


  • Manage the continual, planned upgrade to electrical devices, control technology, etc. to protect from obsolescence

  • Provide leadership to the application of new technology across electrical controls, information technology, etc.

Special Projects


  • Recommend and implement projects that would conserve electrical resources

  • Provide full design, approval, implementation, and startup of the electrical portion of major capital projects

Skills Development

  • Manage and lead the continuous training and development of our site electrical resources

  • New systems training leader

  • Replenish the sites resources as we lose technicians

  • Develop talent to effectively deal with high level, sophisticated electrical equipment (robots, servo-drives, vision systems, printing systems, etc.)

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Education

  • Bachelor's Degree or 4 + years of experience in lieu of degree

Experience


  • Previous AutoCAD Drawing experience is preferred.

  • A thorough understanding of business priorities and performance of the company, the division and the site is desired and preferred.

  • 5+ years of hands-on, industrial and/or electrical process or packaging maintenance required.

  • Must have technical manufacturing equipment experience.

  • Must be able to use Continuous Improvement tools and Failure Mode Effect Analysis processes to drive equipment reliability results.

  • Demonstrated Focused Improvement or Process Improvement skills a must.

  • Must possess experience with Microsoft Office suite for management of regular work responsibilities.

  • Must possess ability to utilize Maintenance Management systems and maintain and establish new Condition Based Monitoring systems - i.e., vibration, infrared, ultrasound, etc.

  • Prior PLC Programming, including operator interface screens and/or power distribution and controls experience required.

  • Must demonstrate the ability to relate and work well with all levels of operations, staff and management personnel for performance of overall deliverables and in support of Smucker Quality Management Systems (SQMS) and High-Performance Organizational models (HPO).

  • Excellent time management, negotiation and communication skills, and organizational abilities required.

  • Must possess the willingness and ability to work additional hours, weekends and time periods, as required, to respond to work requirements, meetings, deadlines and demands.

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, GMP's and general instructions. Good communication skills are required.

REASONING ABILITY

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out both oral and written instructions.
