ENGIE North America Inc.

ENGIE is seeking a Utility Plant Maintenance Mechanic II for the University of Iowa to troubleshoot, repair, and maintain utility plant boilers, mechanical systems, and equipment such as solid fuel and natural gas-fired water tube boilers, steam turbines, pumps, valves, air compressors, pumps, coal, ash and limestone material conveying system, water, compressed air, lubricating oil, and steam piping systems, etc.

ENGIE at the University of Iowa employs over 100 energy professionals in the trades, technical specialties, engineering, management, and support to operate the utility production and distribution systems, driving toward greater use of renewable and sustainable fuels.

In this role, the Utility Plant Maintenance Mechanic II will report to the Maintenance Supervisor and comply with all Plant & ENGIE safety programs.

What you'll do:


  • Troubleshoot and maintain the following equipment:


  • Solid Fuel and gas-fired water tube boilers including fans, blowers, grates, feeders

  • Steam turbines (over 300 horsepower), pumps, and related equipment

  • Hydraulic and compressed air systems including compressors, dryers, and regulators

  • Pollution control equipment including dust collectors, baghouses, centrifugal collectors

  • Material handling systems including bucket elevators, crushers, slide gates, chutes

  • Install and repair welded steam, water, and compressed air piping systems (greater than 100 PSIG), not covered by ASME B31.1 Standards


  • Perform structural welding and fabrication of structural supports. Modify and repair chutes, hoppers, tanks, and ductwork

  • Perform troubleshooting and maintenance of all types of valves

  • Perform minor electrical work (120 volts) as needed to disconnect or hook up electric motor leads, solenoid valves, and other small equipment

  • Utilize a CMMS for writing and completing work orders with notes

  • Perform the housekeeping functions and equipment cleaning necessary to maintain the Plant in a clean and neat condition

  • Perform root cause failure analysis techniques when solving plant abnormalities and equipment failures

  • Accountable to immediate supervisor for ensuring adherence to the Plant's Safety and Environmental Programs, taking all reasonable precautions to prevent incidents of noncompliance

  • Report any known or suspected violations to your Supervisor and/or Management Personnel

  • Use chain falls, hoists, overhead cranes, and chokers to safely lift components

  • Use precision measurement tools including micrometers, calipers, dial indicators to measure clearances, check coupling alignments, etc.

  • Operate lathe and milling machine to machine or polish precision components

  • Perform and document pre-job hazard assessment and provide pre-job briefs as needed

  • Assist with routine maintenance training and equipment operation training of other site employees

  • Carry out other duties as assigned


Qualifications

What you bring:


  • High School Diploma or GED required

  • Trade/Vocational School and/or Military training preferred.

  • Must have skills in pipefitting (steam, water, and air), cutting and fabrication of metal components, structural welding, carpentry, using precision measurement tools and machining tools, and in the use of rigging equipment.

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, control system drawings, and repair manuals.

  • Three (3) years of experience in a plant (industrial/process/utility) maintenance environment involving primarily rotating equipment maintenance

  • Certification by the American Welding Society Standard AWS D1.1 to perform structural welding

Or


  • A two-year post-high school technical degree in industrial maintenance, plus one (1) year of experience in an industrial plant, process plant, or utility plant maintenance environment involving primarily rotating equipment maintenance and certification by the American Welding Society Standard AWS D1.1 to perform structural welding

Or


  • Journey level skills in one (1) or more of the following trades: machinist, boilermaker, millwright, or certified structural welder with certification by the American Welding Society under standard AWS D1.1

  • Possession of a state-sponsored stationary engineers license like the State of Minnesota Second Class Engineer license preferred

Additional Information/Conditions:


  • Ability to read and understand blueprints, control system drawings, and repair manuals.

  • Ability to meet the highest attendance requirement

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both written and verbally

  • Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy

  • Ability to use a personal computer, calculator, etc.

  • Could involve some lifting

  • Must have a valid driver's license

  • Must have a home/personal telephone

  • Must be on-call as needed/deemed necessary by Supervisor/Management.
