The Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science (Bowers CIS) seeks an innovative, creative and enthusiastic advancement professional to join our growing alumni affairs and development team. As Major Gift Associate (MGA) you will create materials and tools to support fundraising for the benefit to Bowers CIS students and faculty. Established in 2020, Bowers CIS is in a high growth period, fueled by staggering enrollment growth. Your work will contribute to our efforts to secure Cornell University's excellence in research, teaching and innovation through the Campaign for Cornell.

You will shape gift proposals and agreements, correspondence and campaign communications tools. You will facilitate connections with university stakeholders, creating campus visit itineraries, providing event coordination, with particular focus on small-scale major gift prospect salons, and coordinate prospect stewardship. To accomplish these aims you will be called upon to research and synthesize information from a wide range of campus partners enabling you to develop and utilize in-depth knowledge of the university, its priorities and programs.

Work in close partnership with the Associate Director of Development and Alumni Affairs (ADD) to implement best practices, ensuring equity and inclusion, compliance with policies and procedures, and championing change as appropriate.

Responsibilities include:


  • Initiate and promote activities/tasks required to develop and support individual cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship strategies and actions aligned with identified academic priorities.


  • Mobilize campus partners and coordinate resources enabling potential donors toward action.


  • Partner with the ADD in creating and shaping gift stewardship of major and principal gifts; the MGA serves as a key partner to implement the Bowers CIS stewardship program.


  • Support the Bowers CIS innovation fund (the annual fund) serving as primary editor of solicitation and marketing materials to enable the College to build its constituency.


Required Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's Degree and possess at least three years of related work experience in communications marketing, or an equivalent combination.

Candidates will possess exceptional written communication skills, with particular focus on persuasive and business writing as well as excellent organizational skills with a high level or orientation to detail. Ability to prioritize multiple assignments and projects on concurrent and competing deadlines will enable success. Candidates must have a demonstrated ability to work independently with little supervision while exercising excellent judgement and managing confidential information.

Candidates interested in a fast-paced work environment where creative problem solving and experimentation are the norm are preferred. Knowledge of higher education fundraising is a plus.

Hybrid work arrangements are permitted, allowing both time in the office and work from home within a commutable distance.

This position is a Gift Associate II, with a hiring range of $61,992-$79,704.
