The Cornell Ann S. Bowers College of Computing and Information Science (Bowers CIS) seeks a creative, energetic fundraiser to join us in the newly created role of Associate Director of Development. As a member of our high-performing team, you will generate philanthropy to support the aspirations of the College. Established in 2020, Bowers CIS is in a high growth period, fueled by staggering enrollment growth. Your work will contribute to our efforts to secure Cornell University's excellence in research, teaching and innovation through the Campaign for Cornell.

You will shape partnerships to achieve campaign goals, to create a campaign communications strategy, and to achieve solicitation of major gifts. You will design, implement and support the volunteer structure, manage a major gift prospect portfolio and steward existing donors.

This role will work in close partnership with the Associate Dean for Development and Alumni Affairs to implement best practices, ensuring equity and inclusion, compliance with policies and procedures, and championing change as appropriate.

Responsibilities include:

  • Manage a pool of emerging major gift prospects with the goal to develop and qualify long-term philanthropic partners.


  • Design, create and implement a comprehensive stewardship program shaped to accelerate donors toward additional investment.


  • Co-design, implement and support a campaign volunteer fundraising structure.


  • Manage two members of the Bowers CIS ADD staff, the program lead and major gift associate roles, providing oversight, mentorship and support to team members.


  • When called upon, represent the Associate Dean for Alumni Affairs and Development, serving as a campus-based leader of the Bowers CIS AAD team.


Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's Degree and at least five years of relevant experience in development, alumni affairs, volunteer engagement, communications marketing, or an equivalent combination.

Candidates will possess a keen understanding of the value of discovery-based research and higher education, and an interest in advocacy for same. Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, knowledge of fundraising and individual giving, and the ability to serve effectively as a collaborative team member while also serving as a team leader are essential abilities.

The abilities to handle confidential information with sound judgement, tact and discretion, to manage multiple tasks, and to work in a self-directed independent manner, as well as in a collaborative manner will enable the successful candidate. Candidates interested in a fast-paced work environment where creative problem solving and experimentation are the norm are preferred.

Limited travel is required. Hybrid work arrangements are permitted, allowing both time in the office and work from home within a commutable distance.
