Summary of Job Duties:

Reporting to the Director of the Multicultural Center, the Multicultural Center Latinx Programming Coordinator supports and specializes in Latinx student experiences and opportunities and contributes to the diversity education, academic retention, and college access outreach facilitated by the multicultural center. The Program Coordinator will develop, facilitate, and assess culturally responsive programming that affirms identities and builds community through mentoring and the facilitation of co-curricular programming, including cultural celebrations and educational forums.

The Center for Multicultural and Diversity Education (MC) is a campus community that welcomes all students and supports their sense of belonging and their pursuits of academic success and personal goals; it facilitates college access outreach, academic retention, and scholarships alongside programming celebrating students' identities and lived experiences. The Multicultural Center is a multicultural, intersectional space that affirms difference, explores shared humanity through cultural celebrations, intercultural and public events, educational forums, and partnerships that promote diversity education and social justice.



Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree inLatin American and Latino Studies, Spanish,Education,Counseling, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration, History, Communications, Social Work, or related fields from an accredited institution of higher education


  • At least two yearsof relevantexperience, as a student leader or professional,in areas such ascultural programming, advocacy for identity communities,orcollege accessandacademicretention programming


Preferred Qualifications:


  • Master's degree in Latin American or Latino Studies, Higher Education, Sociology, Political Science, History, Counseling, or related field from an accredited institution of higher education


  • Experience developing programs that support student belonging and success, enhance the development of inclusive and diverse communities in which students live and learn


  • Spanish and English biliteracy


  • Extensive direct personal and/or professional experience with Latino/Latina/Latine/Latinx student experiences and in intersectional service to communities of students whose experiences based on culture, color, gender, sex, ability, and other identities are historically marginalized and excluded


  • At least one year of professional experience facilitating culturally responsive programming, providing advocacy for identity communities, and/or college access and academic retention programming in a higher education setting


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:


  • Knowledge of multicultural and identity development theories and frameworks regarding student development and diversity education

  • Excellent organizational and logistical planning skills, especially with regard to student programs and events

  • Demonstrated cultural competency coupled with excellent intercultural communications skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment

  • Ability to travel to various events and activities, as well as work some evenings and weekends, based on programming needs

  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with and gain support from a broad and diverse array of constituents, including students, staff, faculty, alumni, parents, community members, and visitors


Salary Information:

$36,000 - $40,000 (commensurate with education and experience)
