IT Project Management Manager - Evernorth at Cigna

Job Description:

Owns the output of a single work area within IT Project Management and typically manages a team of IT Project Management job family roles. Responsible for overall coordination, status reporting and stability of multiple project oriented work efforts. Contributes to the establishment and implementation of project management processes and methodologies for the IT community to ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, adhere to high quality standards and meet customer expectations. Responsible for tracking key project milestones and adjusting project plans and/or resources to meet the needs of customers. Partners with business partners to identify and prioritize opportunities for utilizing IT to achieve the goals of the enterprise. Must possess extensive knowledge and expertise in the use of Project Management methodologies and tools. Utilizes in-depth professional knowledge but is guided by functional practices and well defined management precedents. Focuses on implementing and executing strategies within own department/discipline/team.

This position is with Evernorth, a new business within the Cigna Corporation.

This role is Work from Home which allows most work to be performed at home or on occasion at a Cigna office location. Employees must be fully vaccinated if they choose to come onsite.

Responsibilities


  • Plan and lead solution design sessions and problem analysis reviews

  • Management and mentorship of software developers to enable them with the confidence to commit to a 'Fail Fast' and value-driven mentality while ensuring technical excellence in design and code quality

  • Lead the team effort of defining and planning the Product Increments, sprint plans, and release dates for a multiple Agile scrum teams, some of which are part of an Agile Release Train

  • Manage, track, and communicate all key milestone dates, team commitments, risks, blockers, sprint progress, and team successes and challenges through enterprise Agile tools (Rally, Confluence) and weekly 1:1 meetings

  • Management and mentorship of software developers to enable them with the confidence to commit to a 'Fail Fast' and value-driven mentality while ensuring technical excellence in design and code quality

  • Continually work towards identifying and implementing improvements in the scrum ceremonies and scrum delivery quality and velocity

  • Maintains a content repository and manages key information such as PI content, Release and sprint content and status, team and quality metrics, lessons learned, knowledge repositories

  • Responsible for prioritizing and managing code delivery from software vendors and reporting status to Program Management and Leadership teams

  • Responsible for managing resource capacity in alignment with agreed budget availability for all scrum team activities

  • Accountable for making sound technical decisions and influencing across IT and our vendor partner community to enlist the support of others towards achieving expected delivery results

Qualifications


  • 7+ years in leading application development projects required

  • Agile enthusiast with at least 3+ years working in an Agile environment

  • Advanced knowledge of various software development methodologies ( Agile (Scrum, Kanban, and SAFE, Waterfall, Xtreme Programming, RAD/JAD)

  • Demonstrated ability to manage cross-functional teams toward task completion

  • Effective leadership, negotiation, influence, and critical-thinking skills

  • Advanced written and verbal communication skills are a must - must be able to understand technical projects and issues and translate into business and leadership perspectives in order to provide recommendations and insights

  • Excellent written and verbal communicator, who can explain technical concepts and issues effectively to IT and Business colleagues

  • Excellent problem analysis skills

  • Experience working on software development projects with Service oriented architecture solutions and Batch integration solutions

  • Experience with Application Lifecycle Management and Problem Tracking tools (Rally, Confluence, JIRA, HPSM)

  • Ability to navigate matrixed organizations effectively and develop partnerships with software vendors

  • Results-oriented, diligent and works with a sense of urgency

  • Assertive, responsible for his/her own work (self-directed), have a strong affinity for defining work in deliverables, and be willing to drive for continuous improvement

  • Must be a current contractor with Cigna, Express Scripts, or Evernorth. Evernorth is a new business within the Cigna Corporation.
