As a Category Manager I you will manage category supplier relationships including execution against contractual requirements, management of new product introductions, and continued business development and oversight of the complete cross-organization value stream. This position will source, qualify, negotiate the contractual terms and conditions, and develop supply plans for the purchase of complex materials, equipment or goods and services. You will drive change by improving tools, technologies and processes to achieve better outcomes and support IDEXX's continued growth. What you can expect in this role


  • You will manage, develop, and grow category relationships with assigned suppliers.


  • You will develop and/or manage the strategy of existing supplier contracts and/or agreements, the sourcing and development of new suppliers, and establishing and executing sourcing strategies.


  • You will develop, write, and negotiate the contractual terms and conditions for the procurement of parts, goods, and services in support of various development requirements, and issue Request for Quotes (RFQs) and Request for Proposals (RFPs) to new and/or existing Suppliers for parts or goods and services.


  • You will work in conjunction with R&D, New Product Development, Supplier Quality and Suppliers, understand, communicate and/or determine product parameters and test methods for supplier control of purchased materials.


  • You will participate on New Product Development extended teams to manage the transition of products, make vs. buy assessments, identification of alternate sources, writing & negotiating development and supply contracts and development of supply plans.


  • You will serve as liaison with other Supply Network functional teams, Engineering, and Lines of Business (LOB) on sourcing strategies.


  • You will manage meetings and participant communications to effectively drive decisions and action items. May oversee project managers to support initiatives involving procurement, price negotiation, and supplier sourcing strategies. May lead, develop, and oversee projects and department financials.


  • You will facilitate, create and/or direct the use of a structured, process-oriented, and quality-driven approach to managing categories. Follow standard, measurable processes to manage suppliers. May develop and/or direct standards and may be responsible for ensuring that standards are followed.


What you will need to succeed


  • You have a strong background in strategic sourcing, supply chain management programs, and the ability to assess supplier capability.


  • You have demonstrated negotiation and influence skills and techniques, knowledge in contract negotiation strategies, administration of contracts and confidentiality disclosures.


  • You have demonstrated ability to negotiate with, influence, and facilitate cross-functional teams involving multiple competing tasks and goals.


  • You are able to communicate risk to a variety of stakeholders, recommend solutions and create alignment.


  • You have the skills to lead and make decisions during times of ambiguity.


  • You are a continuous learner who embraces a growth mindset.


  • You have a Bachelors' degree in supply chain management, a technical discipline, or a related field.


  • APICS/ASCM or ISM certification is preferred.
