Company:
MIT Lincoln Laboratory

We design, prototype, analyze, and test laser communications systems suitable for a variety of government platforms. Our research team develops techniques to mitigate fluctuations in signal power caused by turbulence and to lessen wavefront distortions. We perform atmospheric modeling and simulation, and build accurate acquisition, tracking, and pointing subsystems to support highly directional, low-probability-of-intercept communication links. Our major efforts include the demonstration of a low-cost, high-performance airborne laser communications terminal and development of a test capability to ensure interoperability among terminals.

Requirements:

Experience in the following areas is required:

  • Candidate for a Bachelor's, Master's or Doctorate level degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Mathematics, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or related field, with a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25

  • Ability to quickly learn new technical areas and apply that knowledge effectively to solve challenging mission problems

  • Good communication skills: willingness to listen to the needs of customers and the ability to articulate solutions to engineers in other disciplines who possess little understanding of software systems

  • Proficient with C/C++ and Java programming languages, familiarity with XML or JSON data interchange format

  • Knowledge to develop, implement, test and evaluate software algorithms and functions

Experience in one or more of the following areas is desired:

  • Background in signal processing

  • Knowledge in database design and working with large data sets

  • Strong background in Unified Modeling Language (UML) and understanding of the associated behavioral and structural diagrams describing software

  • Proficient at high-level prototyping software languages such as MATLAB Simulink
