OVERVIEW

CHA Consulting, Inc. is currently seeking a Structural Engineer to join our Buildings - Architectural & Structural business practice in Albany, NY; Parsippany, NJ; Rochester, NY; Portland, ME; or Syracuse, NY.

CHA utilizes steel, concrete, masonry, timber, aluminum, fiber-reinforced plastic, and other materials to design the framework for the vast majority of projects we produce. With nearly 200 years of combined structural engineering experience, our engineers have the ability to solve clients' needs, utilizing creative solutions to design efficient structures that safely support the loads and resist the forces imparted on them. Governmental, industrial, manufacturing, institutional, municipal, sports, water/wastewater, aviation, and communication are only a fraction of the market sectors we have the experience and ability to service.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

At CHA, our Structural Engineer provides advanced judgment and analysis techniques for the design of various projects, both new and existing to suit individual client needs. This key role is responsible for planning, scheduling, conducting and coordinating detailed phases of a project independently with other engineering disciplines and project management staff. The Structural Engineer mentors junior staff members and provides technical review of their work as needed.

The Structural Engineer recommends alterations to development and design to improve quality of products and/or procedures as well as selects proper procedures to self-check his/her own work for completeness and accuracy in technical reports and calculations. This position requires the ability to identify, develop, and gather technical resources necessary to complete assignments. The candidate will continuously monitor the progress and performance of the engineering design development against the project work plan.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

    Bachelor's Degree in Engineering required
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license required

SKILLS, EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS


  • Minimum of 4 years of structural engineering building design experience required

  • Independently complete complex development of engineering design, preparation of specifications, compile technical reports and other activities requiring the knowledge of standard engineering principles and techniques

  • Demonstrates a strong knowledge in structural engineering with the proven ability to practically apply engineering best practices

  • Selects proper procedures to self-check his/her own work for completeness and accuracy in technical reports and calculations

  • Can develop individual discipline work plans to coincide with the milestones of a project work plan

  • Complete projects within budget and scheduling restraints

  • Provides guidance to junior level engineering staff members

  • Advanced proficiency with engineering, computational, and modeling software (Revit, AutoCAD, Tekla, RAM, ENERCALC)

  • Familiar with QA/QC procedures and understands basic business practices and laws related to engineering

  • Ability to demonstrate leadership skills and effectively work in a collaborative environment

  • Effective verbal and written communication skills with the ability to adapt communication style to suit various audiences

  • Proficiency with MS Office software required

  • An active role in a professional engineering society/organization preferred.
