Senior Software Engineer - Supply Chain at Best Buy

Job Description:

The Best Buy Digital & Technology team is seeking talented individuals to design and develop custom software as well as support the implementation of packaged applications. This role writes specifications for customizations, data migration, and system integrations as well as leading the implementation of data migration and translation, data integration, custom development, and reports. This role will drive and deliver high priority strategic technical initiatives, working closely with internal Product and Engineering teams in a highly collaborative, cross functional and fast-paced environment, ensuring the programs and projects are aligned with enterprise timelines and business objectives.

The Sr. Software Engineer is an individual contributor and a member of the application delivery team and will be responsible for coding, defining and executing technology solutions that meet our business’ requirements and deliver the associated benefits. The role is integral to drive modern, cost-effective implementations to meet critical business needs that follow industry best practices. This person will interact with and must be able to influence other technical leads, engineers, managers, product colleagues, and partners throughout the organization.

Core Responsibilities of the role include:


  • Improving knowledge and understanding of core concepts of SE, coding small features, coding large features, mentoring others, learning and applying industry trends, creating and improving internal libraries and tools, partnering with team-specific stakeholders, designing features, participating and leading in production support, teaching best practices internally

  • Perform technical code reviews to ensure quality

  • Keep up to date on industry technology trends and modern software delivery techniques.

  • Demonstrate knowledge of industry trends and look for ways these trends could add value to your products or engineering practices.

  • Active participant in planning activities. Contributes to strategic planning

  • Anticipates technical issues at the product level and makes architectural and design decisions to avoid them

  • Communicate effectively articulating technical decisions to product and technical partners

  • Provide direction to engineering team consisting of engineering and QA resources leveraging diverse development methodologies (agile)

  • Enforce processes around development methodologies including continuous integration, static code analysis, test coverage, test automation etc.

  • Responsible for maintaining solution integrity through the course of the project including controlling scope, managing solutions for change requests and clarifying solution capabilities during all delivery phases.

Basic Qualifications:

  • 3 or more years of experience as a full-stack developer using one or more of these technologies- Oracle database, No SQL Database, Java, Angular JS, API, Microservices, Spring framework and Mockito framework, Kibana, Kafka, Openshift, Stratus

  • 3 or more years of experience in one more of the following areas, with demonstrated progression of responsibilities:

    • Iterative/agile methodology

    • Custom software development



  • 1 or more years of experience partnering with business or Product team resources to define requirements for application development

  • 1 or more years of experience in defining, creating, and integrating high scale, large volume, and reliable applications

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or higher in IT, Computer Science, or related field

  • 2 + years of experience in Test-driven development, refactoring, automated unit test, integration test, functional test, and continuous integration/deployment. Strong debugging and troubleshooting skills

  • Experience using version control systems such as bitbucket and/or Git

  • Experience using modern JavaScript libraries such as React and Redux
