To support our ongoing growth and success, we are seeking a team player who excels at safe and efficient equipment operation and field support to join Habitat Restoration Sciences, Inc. (HRS). Applicants must be able to perform all levels of manual labor related to equipment operation and landscape construction installation and maintenance. Class A license a plus. May include Federal or State Prevailing Wage work. This full-time position reports to our Vista, CA office, but requires some out of town work and travel.

Duties and Responsibilities


  • Understand and practice safety in all work circumstances

  • Operate various sized construction equipment such as backhoe, tractors, skid steer loader, trencher and any other relevant earthwork and landscaping equipment

  • Secure work site, equipment, and materials at the end of each shift to ensure public safety and the safety of equipment and materials

  • Inspect and maintain equipment in working order (or be able to identify areas that need service)

  • Perform construction labor tasks as needed

  • Complete daily paperwork and client required reports and documents

  • Work in accordance with all local health and safety laws and regulations

Education and Essential Skills


  • 3-5 years of equipment operating experience in a landscape maintenance or construction setting

  • Valid driver's license with a clean DMV record required

  • Knowledge and understanding of operating various sizes of equipment

  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment

  • Knowledge of tools used for repairs and maintenance

  • Able to work in and around various landscaping settings including direct contact with various plant and landscaping materials and exposure to various dust, noise, variable weather conditions and uneven terrain

  • Grade setting experience preferred

  • Experience working with native plants a plus

  • Out of Town/Overnight travel required

  • Ability to lift and carry 50 plus pounds

  • Ability to work independently and with a team

Position requires consistently moving, walking, stooping, kneeling and bending. Frequently required to stand and walk. Driving for extended periods of time. Ability to push, pull, carry and lift 50 pounds multiple times per day. Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions and exposure to elements 8 plus hours per day. Frequently walking on uneven terrain. Ability to push/pull/twist frequently when dealing with equipment. This can include heavy to moderate noise, close proximity to moving equipment or machinery. Exposure to materials, tools, herbicides and equipment used in construction and landscaping.
