Job Description Summary

The Los Angeles Times and San Diego Union-Tribune are looking for a passionate, self-driven Manager, Acquisition Marketing, to drive digital subscription efforts. This is a great opportunity for an entrepreneurial, strategically minded and data-driven individual to join the Consumer Marketing team.

The Consumer Marketing team is comprised of Acquisition, Retention, Operations, Paid Media, Brand, Creative and Print Marketers who all partner together to drive new subscriber acquisition and retention goals, in measurable ways.

We’re looking for a digital acquisition lead to own planning, execution and optimization of all acquisition marketing and communication programs to grow our digital subscriber base, while never losing sight of providing a quality experience to our customers. Ideally, this individual will develop programs that drive a high volume of new, high quality subscribers who are likely to remain subscribed (influencing retention), across owned and paid channels.

To excel in this role, you will need to be constantly improving our digital acquisition marketing strategies, looking for new opportunities and new audiences and identifying areas of improvement within existing strategies. This role will work closely with the retention marketing, marketing operations, performance marketing, research, product, engineering and data teams to build marketing acquisition plans with measurement, testing and constant iteration being used for continual improvement. You’ll need a superb understanding of growing a digital subscription business while working across multiple teams throughout the organization to ensure success.

Responsibilities


  • Lead the concept, development and implementation of highly sophisticated digital acquisition campaigns across numerous consumer touchpoints – thinking about campaigns as multi-touch campaigns, not one-off communications

  • Understand the subscription lifecycle and identify opportunities based on where a potential subscriber is in their journey and what messaging will be most compelling

  • Live and breathe data. Constantly be testing new ideas, obtaining measurable results that can be used to make business decisions, and partner with the data teams on strategies involving data models and machine learning solutions

  • Own the strategy for on-site subscription efforts for all consumer touchpoints, backing up all recommendations with data to support

  • Own the strategy for external subscription efforts including paid social and search campaigns

  • Lead acquisition reporting efforts – gathering data from different internal sources, in partnership with the data team, to identify trends, insights and actionable recommendations that make the work stronger and more effective based on specific campaign KPI

  • Work with the business to optimize our subscription revenue

  • Manage and ensure quality of customer service throughout campaigns by briefing the customer service team monthly on new acquisition efforts and offers
