About The Role:

The Creative Director is responsible for understanding TRP’s marketing objectives and translating them into clear strategies and creative executions that increase brand awareness, drive business results, ensure brand consistency, improve our employer brand, and advance our communication strategies. The role is a unique blend of storytelling, creative vision, and business savvy. 


  • Create great things. Lead creative kick-offs, producing multiple conceptual directions, campaign assets, and retrospectives on project work. In partnership with the Advertising and Editorial Teams, develop advertising campaign elements and extensions with a digit-first mindset 


  • Drive performance in the process - ensure that we’re testing multiple strong concepts and building performance over time 


  • Utilize internal and external research platforms to test and validate creative concepts and drive KPIs and OKRs 


  • Bring our brand to life - Define T. Rowe Price’s global brand creative vision and act as a SME and champion to drive change and galvanize a variety of points of view 


  • Bring the brief to life - Translate marketing objectives into clear creative strategies 


  • Produce with excellence - Manage the creative process from concept to completion ensuring integration across marketing channels across digital, social, advertising, mobile, print, TV, collateral, and out of home 


  • Build and develop a great bench – Manage and lead a team of art directors and designers and effectively developing creative assets supporting advertising, marketing, corporate communications, PR, HR, Legal, Brand and the environmental experience. Act as a direct and indirect leader bringing a team-wide and company-wide point-of-view to their direct reports and communicating how their work fits into the larger company mission 


  • Manage, maintain, and review contractors and external vendors to accommodate a flexible capacity model 


  • Develop and govern the evolution of our brand expression - Partner with Brand Management team to act as a key driver in developing our brand identity and expression, brand standards and to ensure their local and global implementation 


  • Spot trends - Identify and integrate trends in design, technology, leadership, and other areas that advance and modernize our creative development 


  • Roll up your sleeves – Identify, own, and design great assets and elements as a leader and with a hands-on approach 


  • Leverage technology – You have expertise in modern design tools like the Adobe Creative Suite and Figma and project management platforms like Trello and Jira as well as collaboration tools such as Miro or Mural 


  • Influence and creative operations - Excellent written and oral communication skills, experience in project management, and finance. Oversee department budget, projections, T&E, training, and day-to-day operations 


  • Collaboration and influence across the design community leadership to actively create a vibrant, educational, and inspirational community 


Role Summary:

Provides leadership and direction through managers and sizable teams of professionals.  Is accountable for the performance and results of a larger department and/or multiple departments.  Develops and executes strategy to achieve key business objectives defined in collaboration with senior management.  Decisions are guided by department and business unit strategy and objectives with results assessed with a near-term and long-term perspective.  Directs a team of subordinate managers and/or a large team of creative professionals who develop and execute design concepts for multimedia and online campaigns. Guides their work to ensure activities are aligned to department objectives. Oversees the implementation of the design process and strategy. Provides training and guidance to staff, ensuring performance expectations are met. Accountable for the overall quality and integrity of assigned campaigns/projects. Typically, has deep experience in a focus area and broad knowledge of other creative disciplines (graphic arts, digital media, Web design, Web content, data visualization, video post-production, animation, etc.) to ensure a comprehensive, integrated approach to all design concepts delivered within their units. 

Responsibilities:

Directs the development of innovative and effective conceptual designs and creative visual solutions to highly complex marketing challenges across multiple design mediums and products/campaigns. Provides approval for proposed conceptual designs and often personally leads complex, multifaceted campaigns within the department(s).  Provides thought leadership to steer strategic creative concept sessions. Applies significant experience, knowledge of best practices, and expert communication abilities to express and present creative rationale to senior management and influence buy-in for creative ideas. 

Develops and fosters relationships with internal (design and editorial) and external (freelancers, production vendors, etc.) resources to deliver creative assignments in support of business activities. Applies strong interpersonal skills and expertise at consulting to a diverse internal client base. Ensures the overall quality of client support provided by subordinate teams; addresses escalated issues and follows through to resolution. Removes roadblocks inhibiting the unit's ability to provide high-quality, timely work.  Applies extensive knowledge of industry/segment trends, market climates, and competitor activities, and leverages this knowledge to identify opportunities and recommend effective, competitive, design deliverables.  Guides teams in establishing effective plans for projects/campaigns and ensures they align to departmental and business unit objectives. Ensures staff are maintaining alignment with approved style guidelines and standards to drive consistency, brand alignment, and design integrity across projects and mediums. Manages the visual brand team's coordination of a consistent visual experience. May provide art direction as needed.  Recruits, directs, motivates, and develops staff/management team, maximizing their individual contribution, their professional growth, and their ability to build and sustain a team culture of efficiency and quality. Accountable for the financial and human resources of a large department/multiple departments to include budgeting, staffing resources, etc.

Typical Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree or the equivalent combination of education and relevant experience AND 8+ years of total relevant work experience and 2+ years of management experience.

Preferred:


  • Solid portfolio of creative directed work 


  • Financial services or other highly regulated industry experience preferred 


  • Advertising or marketing agency experience preferred 


  • Ability to take complex concepts and craft compelling creative executions 


  • Strong storyteller 


  • Comfort working with cross-functional teams 


  • Excellent relationship management skills 


  • Comfort working as a direct and indirect leader to motivate creative teams 


  • Expertise in Adobe Creative Suite 


  • Knowledge of project management tools like Trello or Jira 


  • Knowledge of collaboration tools like Miro or Mural or similar 


  • Knowledge of web-based design/prototyping tools like Figma or similar 


  • Experience with research testing platforms like UserTesting.com or similar  


  • Knowledge of project management concepts
