Complex Safety Manager (Poultry Plant) at Koch Foods

Job Description:

In 1985, Koch Foods started as a one-room chicken de-boning and cutting operation with 13 employees. We’ve grown to be one of the top poultry processors in the U.S., but the core of who we are remains unchanged: a team that is adept, reliable and service oriented.

Job Summary:

The Safety Manager is primarily responsible for overall safety compliance and enforcement of federal, local, and Company procedures, policies and regulations. The Safety Manager leads the safety and compliance function for the assigned plant, ensuring prevention of injury, illness, and property damage. In addition, oversees daily duties of Medical Safety Coordinators. 

Primary Duties & Responsibilities:


  • Manage safety & health programs, ensuring prevention of injuries, illnesses, and property loss

  • Manage medical and worker’s compensation related activities 

  • Investigate and report accidents, near misses, first aid, recordables and lost time injuries

  • Conduct periodic safety inspections, ensuring compliance

  • Administer safety programs (i.e. Lock out/Tag Out, Confined Space/Ergonomic programs, Hot work/Industrial Hygiene, etc.)

  • Assist operations with regulatory inspections

  • All other relevant duties as assigned

Job Requirements:


  • High School Diploma; Bachelor Degree preferred 

  • 1+ year(s) relevant safety management experience

  • Technical knowledge of OSHA laws, policies and regulations

  • Certification as Safety Professional (CSP) preferred

  • Demonstrated knowledge of ammonia refrigeration and electrical systems

  • Excellent interpersonal and verbal and written communication skills  

  • Proficient technology and computer skills, including MS Office based programs

Physical/Environmental Factors:

Typical office environment within a plant setting:



  • Use of computer, telephone and other office equipment 

  • May encounter frequent interruptions throughout the work day

  • Regularly required to sit, talk, and listen

  • Repetitive hand motions, and occasional standing, walking, reaching, and lifting up to 20 lbs

  • Exposure to noise levels greater than 85 decibels

  • Exposure to strong, raw meat odor
