Role Summary:
The Lead Experience Design Researcher will execute on the strategic direction of the by working with relevant Product teams, Customer Strategy team, and the Experience Design team through research and discovery. This role is responsible for developing research strategies, roadmaps, and executing all stages of research. The individual must be able to demonstrate knowledge and apply relevant theoretical foundations from Behavioral Sciences and Cognitive Sciences in designing, executing, analyzing and synthesizing research findings. This role serves as a catalyst to educate, accelerate, and activate product design and development to be advocates of customers and apply that into their product designs. They are responsible for managing multi-channel relationships and collaborating across business and product teams.

Responsibilities:
1. Developing Appropriate Research Strategy for Product and Design Teams


  • Advocates for meaningful research projects that align with company strategy

  • Leads and oversees research process including recommending appropriate methodology, scoping, planning, and prepping for in-person and remote studies

  • Facilitates broad large group ideation and discovery conversations

  • Engages with customers and care providers in mindful, meaningful, sensitive, and ethical ways

2. Leading and Executing Research Methodologies

  • Acts as a strategic thought partner and provide expert guidance in leading, conducting, and synthesizing generative, exploratory, and discovery research

  • Ability to develop, recommend, and execute on evaluative research methodologies if and when needed

3. Research Synthesis and Delivery of Insights and Recommendations

  • Leads analysis and synthesis of research findings

  • Identifies and leads the creation of the most efficient research deliverable(s)

  • Provides recommendations to Design and Product Teams using sound and relevant theoretical foundations

4. Maintain Stakeholders, Partners, and Vendor Relationships.

  • Serves as key partners for Lead Designers in developing research strategies that would further enrich and evolve the skillsets of researchers and designers within the Product Experience and Design organization

  • Facilitates efficient information sharing across other research teams internal to Best Buy

5. Team Leadership

  • Guides and oversees the overall ethical, diverse, and inclusive conduct of research for the team

  • Provides expert guidance on research strategy, methodology, and analysis techniques for members of the research team

  • Provides critique and guidance on research outputs with the goals of producing the most intuitive and efficient research deliverables for partners and stakeholders

Experience:

  • 6+ years of experience directly leading and conducting exploratory research

  • For those who have Master’s or Doctorate Degree in Cognitive and Behavioral Sciences, Anthropology, Social Science, Design Research or Human-Computer Interaction, the required years of experience is at least 4 years directly leading and conducting research exploratory research.

Preferred Experience:
  • 1+ years working with digital products is highly preferred
