System Performance Technician at American Tower Corporation

The Team
 

We are seeking a System Performance Technician to join American Tower’s U.S. Tower division’s System Performance team.  The System Performance Technician troubleshoots, repairs, and maintains a defined region of active wireless systems which may include distributed antenna systems (“DAS”), small cells, DRAN, and Wi-Fi (this includes the electronic, RF, and physical layer). You will maintain and execute Company-defined operational and network performance standards, processes, and procedures governing the repair, maintenance, and network availability. You will work with the Network Operations Center (“NOC”) and System Performance Engineers to ensure assets comply with performance metrics and customer service level agreements (“SLAs”).


 

What You Can Offer Us


  • Perform break/fix services on active equipment to maintain system availability metrics for assigned clusters/regions. Work closely and in collaboration with System Performance Engineers and the NOC to resolve network outages.

  • Interface with the NOC and System Performance Engineers to operate remote monitoring software tools and ticketing platforms.

  • Work cross-functionally to ensure monitoring, ticketing, and information management systems are efficient and effective.

  • Prioritize network issues and outages to meet or exceed contracted repair service level agreements.

  • Interact with external parties such as carriers and landlords and their representatives.

  • Perform routine site audits of assets in an assigned area/zone in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

  • Ensure all assigned assets meet safety, compliance, and asset integrity standards through the Company’s Standard of Care Program.

  • Approximately 75% of time, the role will be performed outside of a conventional office environment and involve visiting assets in a Company vehicle, including onsite support at special events.

  • Other duties as assigned.

What You Need to Succeed


  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Minimum 4 years of experience in RF field operations supporting the system performance of wireless networks required.

  • Must be at least 21 years old, have a valid driver’s license, safe driving record, and be able to travel extensively by vehicle.

  • Ability to use discretion when setting priorities and resolving issues in accordance with the Company’s standards.

  • Intermediate understanding of passive infrastructure installation and troubleshooting (Fiber, Coax, CAT 6).

  • Experience with RF, DAS, IP and Wi-Fi systems, backhaul and an understanding of wireless principles.

  • Ability to troubleshoot complex radio and cabling networks with guidance from peers and manager.

  • Experience with RF tools and software (e.g., spectrum analyzer, test phones, CW, fiber OTDR, optical power meter).

  • Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel; ability to use additional Company software applications.

  • Strong written and oral communication skills, including the ability to present ideas and suggestions clearly and effectively.

  • Ability to work with different functional groups and levels of employees to effectively and professionally achieve results.

  • Strong organizational skills; ability to accomplish multiple tasks within the agreed upon timeframes through effective prioritization of duties and functions in a fast-paced environment.

  • While performing the role, you will need to lift up to 60 lbs., climb ladders and operate lifts with proper certifications, and be able work at developed and undeveloped construction sites.

  •  Approximately 25% air travel may be required in support of the position’s responsibilities.
