Summary Objective

This position is the Shift Lead Technician for the Beam Processing Center.

Essential Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

  1. Observance of all safety rules and policies maintained by the company.

  1. Lead the crew for the assigned shift (2-4 operators in a highly automated facility).

  1. Perform quality checks per control plans and inspection instructions and record data. Assist with analysis of data and reaction to out of spec/out of control situations.

  1. Determine if out of spec beams can be reworked or must be remade.

  1. Perform rectification/rework of beams as required. This may include mechanical cambering, plasma cutting, MIG welding and/or laser/manual marking.

  1. Movement of beams in/out of rectification as needed via overhead crane.

  1. Coordination of necessary paperwork/data entry throughout the workday.

  1. Coordination with peers on alternate shifts to ensure smooth, seamless operation of the facility.

  1. Clean and maintain equipment in accordance with procedures including completion of periodic equipment inspections (5S).

  1. Assist with PM of plant equipment during any required PM "swarm" events.

  1. Coordinate with in-plant maintenance crew for both PM and downtime events.

  1. Backfill for other plant operators during breaks etc.

  1. Participate in continuous improvement activities including brainstorming, testing and implementing modifications to the process.

  1. Must be able to read and process written communication including, but not limited to, work orders, delivery receipts, prints, and measurements.

  1. Must be able to operate lift trucks, overhead cranes, plasma torches, welders and other plant equipment as needed.

  1. Must be able to operate appropriate equipment including radios, stabilization devices, tape measures, scanners, etc.

  1. Must be able to interact with automated machinery via HMI interface. Understand machine up-time, error codes, PM intervals, machine faults and other abnormalities.

  1. Must be highly organized.

  1. Must possess successful problem solving skills.

  1. Must be able to exhibit tact, diplomacy and maintain professional relationships with supervisors, fellow employees, customers, etc.

  1. Must be able to work under physically and mentally stressful situations.

  1. Must be able to prioritize and easily adapt to changes through the day.

  1. Must be able to read and understand daily schedules.

Supervisory Responsibility

Responsible for LCI team members on assigned shift (2-4 people).

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. This position requires standing, walking, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling. The employee may have to lift and/or move items over 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus. This position requires Personal Protective Equipment. Protective Equipment supplied by the company includes: Coating suit, Coating Boots, Spray Socks, Respirator, Work Gloves, Safety Glasses and Ear Plugs. Employees may be required to provide additional Protective Equipment (Safety Shoes, Hard Hats, etc.).

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time salary position. Initial schedule will be first shift. May require alternate shift work if multi-crew schedule is necessary.

Travel

No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience


  1. High School diploma or equivalent.

  2. Basic computer knowledge.

  3. 2-5 years work experience in a technical position such as auto mechanics or similar.

Preferred Education and Experience


  1. Robotics and/or other automation.

  2. College technical degree and/or coursework.

About the Beam Processing Center
The Beam Processing Center (BPC) is a brand new, highly automated manufacturing facility on the campus of Lippert's Goshen chassis complex. The BPC will provide chassis beams to all of the LCI plants in Elkhart County by running 24 hours per day. Line maintenance will be performed with the speed and precision of a NASCAR pit stop to maximize line up-time. The pace will be fast and the work very rewarding in a comfortable environment.
