HOW YOU WILL DO IT

Purpose Statement: The Manager - Material Team (MTM) is the customer liaison for a focus factory, representing both the Strategic and Tactical Materials Organization. All customer related material requirements are communicated by the MTM. These requirements are fulfilled by the Materials organization through the design of models and processes in the strategic group and by implementation and execution of the models and processes within the tactical group. Additionally, the MTM will be responsible for managing and directing procurement and demand planning functions in support of the customer's requirements.

Key Job Accountabilities:


  • Comply with materials clauses in the customer's contract. (i.e. DOU, PSA, MSA, etc.). Responsible for ensuring that demand loading, transitioning and purchasing of material is in adherence to this document and Plexus policy.

  • Act as a customer liaison for material issues to ensure effective resolutions.

  • Timely execution of obsolete and excess mitigation in accordance with the corporate process and customer contract. Aggressively pursue reductions by driving disposition with Purchasing, Finance, Program Manager and the Customer.

  • Manage and provide oversight and direction to the Demand Analyst to ensure the coordination and development to of a master production schedule that optimizes customer satisfaction, days of inventory and supports the site revenue plan.

  • Manage and provide oversight and direction to the Purchasing Leader to ensure the procurement team is performing effectively.

  • Accountable to execute on Plexus' Best People strategy, leaders will focus on evaluating potential, driving succession planning and ensuring that their employees receive the development and coaching required to realize their full potential.

Additional Accountabilities:


  • Initiate, evaluate and monitor suggested corporate supply chain solutions in order to optimize procurement and deployment techniques. Maintain optimal inventory levels that support customer OTD goals and meet corporate goals.

  • Review and approve purchase orders at appropriate signature level.

  • Lead the execution of effective materials transitions.

  • Coordinate and drive cost reduction activities to meet customer and site goals. Participate in re-pricing activities. Ensure that cost (Plexus Expected Cost - EC) and price (Plexus Quote Cost - QC) are established for any re-quote efforts.

  • Participate in existing customer new product quote reviews.

  • Participate in Quarterly Business Reviews with customers with respect to materials issues and understand customers' commodities and market conditions.

  • Understand customers P & L's and be accountable for impact to Parts Contribution, Materials Labor Cost, Inventory Levels, Obsolescence and Freight on corporate financial performance.

  • Take an active role in monthly/quarterly site revenue and margin objectives.

  • Perform annual performance evaluations, participate in goal setting for all direct reports and communicate customer updates, changes, etc. Schedule one-on-one meetings to encourage communication and development.

  • Minimal travel may be required to meet the needs of the business.

  • Additional duties as assigned.

Education/Experience Qualifications:


  • A minimum of a Bachelor's degree is required; a Bachelor's degree in Business, Operations Management, or related field is preferred.

  • Five (5) years of related experience is required; Seven (7) or more years of related experience is preferred.

  • Understanding of supply chain models and lean manufacturing practices is beneficial.

  • Certification in production inventory control management (APICS) and/or purchasing (NAPM) is beneficial.

An equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the key job accountabilities may be considered.


Other Qualifications:


  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary.

  • Management/Supervisory skills including assertiveness, prioritizing, and multi-tasking capabilities.

  • A working knowledge of MRP system is required.

  • Computer literacy in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ERP programs are essential.

  • General office equipment and materials.

Work Environment:

  • The work setting should consist of an office environment with suitable lighting, comfortable temperatures, and a low noise level.
