The Senior Ground Safety Investigator conducts investigations of ground safety-related events (i.e. accidents, incidents and safety occurrences) that occur during airline ground operations using data-driven systems, based largely upon scientific principles and operational knowledge. The Senior Ground Safety Investigator also conducts safety data analysis, manages data sources, and develops new data analysis methods. Investigations and analysis allow for continuous monitoring and management of safety risks associated with operational error.
Essential Responsibilities
Conduct detailed investigations of accidents, incidents, significant events, and other ground safety issues such as those derived through trend analysis
Collect flight data and other information in support of event investigation procedures
Acquire, analyze, and present information gained through on-site investigation, independent reading, interviews with witnesses, discussions with subject-matter specialists, or others through appropriate methods
Prepare investigation reports that include the facts, analysis, conclusions, findings and recommendations associated with an event
Research regulatory issues pertaining to a particular event
Collects and analyzes safety event data to raise awareness of operational risks, and to facilitate the application of corrective actions to mitigate those risks
Notifies the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) and key management personnel of significant events
Assist in the coordination of corrective actions with operating departments and facilitate Operational Risk Management techniques within the organization to mitigate identified risks
Participate in airline industry safety conferences, groups, and associations to include domestic and international travel
Perform or support the management and analysis of various sources of safety data, including Crewmember reports of operational events and safety issues, and data generated from internal safety programs across safety functional areas
Perform special statistical studies
Prepare routine and special reports for all levels in the organization detailing analysis or study results
Update and publish a variety of routine reports and provide safety data input to safety review boards
Develop and maintains safety performance and safety program metrics
Ensure adherence to all Safety and Security regulations

Minimum Experience and Qualifications
High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
Three (3) years of experience in aviation and data analysis with expert knowledge of safety, ground operations, data analysis, and/or safety investigations experience
Prior experience in a 14 CFR Part 121 Safety Investigations program or in one or more of the FAA's Voluntary Flight Safety Programs such as FOQA, ASAP, FRMS, or an equivalent safety reporting program required as part of an approved SMS
Experience in Aviation operations (FAA Certificated Pilot, A&P, Dispatcher) or significant work experience in an operational role at a Part 121 Carrier or Aircraft OEM
Working knowledge of regulations governing commercial aviation
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
Ability to acquire, analyze, and present information gained through on-site investigation, independent reading, interviews with witnesses, discussions with subject-matter specialists, or others through appropriate methods
Ability to conduct or support data and/or statistical analyses to provide meaningful and actionable insight that improve JetBlue's safety performance
Proficiency with business intelligence and/or data reporting tools
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Strong project management skills
Exceptional interpersonal skills including the ability to communicate with various levels of management, external business partners, and regulatory agencies
Ability to work under stress in a fast paced, deadline driven environment
In possession of valid travel documents with the ability to travel in and out of the United States
Available for occasional overnight travel (15%)
Must pass a ten (10) year background check and pre-employment drug test
Must be legally eligible to work in the country in which the position is located
Preferred Experience and Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in aviation, safety, airline/airport operations, or a related field
Three (3) years of aviation ground safety event or accident investigation experience
Airbus 320 (A320), Airbus 220 (A220) and/or Embraer 190 (E190) ground handling and operations knowledge or experience
Formal safety and/or accident investigation training
Working knowledge of the regulations and standards governing commercial aviation (ICAO, EASA, FAA, NTSB, IOSA)
Working knowledge of regulations and standards governing commercial aviation ground operations and Crewmember safety (FAA, EASA, OSHA)
Experience with Safety Management Systems (SMS) either in direct work experience or higher education and working knowledge of SMS principals and applications

Ability to work flexible hours and maintain a rotating "on-call" status during off duty hours for screening safety related events and initiating investigations
Ability to travel occasionally to various airport facilities, and work on and around aircraft
Subject to weather and elevated noise levels within airports
